We had been ordering K9 Advantix for the dog and it has worked. I noticed that there are different versions of the spot-treatment stuff in stores and wonder if they work as well as the expensive stuff. I just realized this morning I waited too late to order her next batch (we order from CanadaVet.com 'cause it's the cheapest but takes about 2 wks to get here) so I'm thinking about picking up the store stuff. Anyone try these? Do they work as well as the stuff you have to get from the vet or order? Also, are fleas/ticks less of a threat in cooler weather?

In my opinion, I don't think they work as well. I'm scared to use a lot of the Hartz products because of problems they had in the past that killed many pets.
I do think there is less of a threat in the colder weather. We had a terrible flea problem this summer, but now I haven't seen one in over a month.
I know our vet will sell them one at a time. Can you just go get a few until your order comes in?

Been there done that. Buying the stuff at the store was a huge mistake. Of course, it is the off season for the fleas so you may get away with it. But all in all it's not worth it. I'd stick with what you have been doing. Even if you need to run by the vet and pick up a single dose. Some in the area sale them in single doses.

Best Friends sold them to us by the single dose before.

Oak Ridge Animal Clinic will sell them by the single dose as well.

My little Toy Terrier has an alergy for umteen million things and the vet told me I needed to put her on Advantix so she does not have reactions to the venom in the flea bite. Geez, I think the dog is allergic to people! She is on a pill now. Everything else has failed.
