My daughter made this cake for her hubby. (Her first time to use fondant. Notice the red hands, lol.)

Then, we decided to take a picture of the baby with it. So cute! :)

What's cuter - the baby or the cake????

Ok - the baby! That was a no brainer :)

The cake looks pretty cool too!

There is some trick to making it smooth all the way around the cake. We didn't figure it out obviously, so she took white icing and made a border around the bottom. It did turn out cute. I couldn't believe she made that white fondant maroon! I didn't think she would be able to get close to the color. Looks pretty maroon to me though! The cake is chocolate with a chocolate fudge center. :)

Yeah, she did excellent with the color! It's so even too... I've never worked with fondant; it's so intimidating. I think I read something about folding the edges over and using that cake spatula thingy (the frosting spreader?) and getting it just slightly wet and working over the folds until it's smooth. Like I said, I *think* I read that somewhere... not for the faint-hearted ;)

She had to knead it for a long time to get the color even. But, we were both very pleased with the results. The fondant taste like crap though! :)

Wow! I can't believe she got the fondant that color - it is perfect! I assumed it came that way. I am intimidated by fondant as well. My sister wanted fondant for her wedding cake. Lindy's is doing the cake and told her she won't do it because it tastes like crap! She said she can get the frosting as smooth as the fondant. She did a cake for my cousins wedding 3 months ago and she was exactly right! It's too bad it's not the best to eat because it really does look nice.

She bought the premade fondant. It comes in different colors, but she bought white.

The lady that made her wedding cake, bridal shower cake and baby cake uses fondant and it tastes pretty good. (As compared to other fondants.) I do know several people that won't use it because of the taste, but you can add vanilla or other flavorings to make it taste better. We just forgot to do that yesterday when she was making her cake. So, her fondant will be peeled off when they eat it today! :)

I have never used it before. I was intimidated by it as well. Seeing that it comes in a box and you can knead flavors or colors into it, I just may make something with it. I was thinking of starting with something simple like a softball for dh.
