View Full Version : Considering a juicer

I shouldn't do this, because I really don't have storage space for another appliance. And, I don't want to pay big bucks for something I may rarely use. But, I have run across a couple of juice recipes that sounded pretty good, and juice seems to be a pretty good way to get extra veggies into my diet. I love V8 juice, but think if I made it myself, it might be even better.
Has anyone had experience with these things? Was it a novelty that wore off? How easy is it to clean? Any info you can give me. (And, of course, if you have one you're wanting to sell, let me know. I'm still at the "thinking about it" stage, but might consider buying one used).

We have or had one. I haven't seen it in a while it may still be in a box somewhere. It's one of those things that sound like a great idea at the time but it was a pain to clean, you had to do it right away or it would get all sticky. I think we used it a few times but since I had to clean it I put it away along with the ice cream maker, the pasta maker etc.
The only appliances I use regularly are the coffee pot, blender and kitchen aid mixer the rest just collect dust. Oh, I do have one of those stick blenders and I use that one a lot.

Are there lots of little parts to clean? I hate that! And, yeah, I rarely get to clean things off right away. Always getting distracted! Which is why I'm looking at used, if I do it at all. I don't want to pay "new" prices for something that doesn't work out.

It's not a juicer, but I love my Vita-Mix for stuff like this. It's like a blender, food processor, juicer, ice cream maker, smoothie maker, etc., all on steroids. I've also got the dry container for grinding grains and kneading dough. It's a lot of money up front, but I think it's been worth every penny.

We have one, but we haven't used it in a while. It was one of those things someone gave us when DH was doing chemo. . .I didn't like it, because it seemed to require an awful lot of veggies to get on little swallow of juice. DH wouldn't let me sell it in the garage sale because he keeps saying that he is going to make apple prune juice for Little Bit, but he never does.:D
If you want it, I'll ask him about it again. If he doesn't want to sell it, I'll certainly let you borrow it to try it out.

Thanks, but I'm needing one that does more than citrus. I'm somewhat hooked on V8 juice, and thought I'd see if I liked making something similar myself. Some of the fruit juice recipes I've seen look good, too, though.
Baby Duck, if you are up to selling it super cheap, or letting me borrow it, that would be great! I've been looking at the powerjuicer website, and it does kind of sound like a lot of trouble. I really should try one out before I spend big bucks. I'm not sure I really have a dollar amount in mind. A new power juicer (the one marketed by the 90 year old man, what's his name?) is $100, but a little reading tells me it's not one of the more sturdy ones. It would probably do for me, but I can't spend that much until I know I'm going to use it.
Hey, I have an idea! If you want to let me borrow it, I'll pay rent in the form of a tub of M&M cookie dough!

LOL! Not really. I'd still pay cash if I out and out bought it. (And, I think it was BabyDuck who wanted that type of cookie dough, but didn't get her order in. I bought some, but we'll never eat it).

You're right! I was the one that wanted to cookie dough. It's my fault that you didn't get my order in, I never managed to get my act together to say yay or nay. I'm going to put the juicer on my cabinet right now, so I don't forget.

Hey, babyduck:
I finally gave it a try this morning. I juiced some carrots, a beet, some apples, some green stuff, etc... It looked pretty disgusting when I was doing it, but the beet covered up the "yucky colors" and the apple sweetened it, so it's pretty good! Will try a V8 type juice later this afternoon. (I see now I need to make a trip to Costco, though, and buy some bulk veggies!)
By the way, husband found the owner's manual on line and printed it, so when I return it to you, I'll pass that on, as well. Thanks for the loaner!

I'm glad it's working out for you. Keep it as long as like.
