Day Camp starts this week. I'm already exhausted. I wanted to be in bed by 8:30p tonight and it's now almost 9:30p and there is no end in sight. I'm overwhelmed with everything there is to do and I have 14 lists and none of them make any sense. It'd help to get off the computer...

IIRC...weren't you excited about summer because of no schedules! Just thought you needed a friendly reminder! :p

:p. The sad part is that I only signed my kids up for 2 weeks, 1 day of activities. I just don't do schedules very well! We've got this week, then 1 week in July of science camp, and a 1-day snake camp thing. The other 8.5-9 weeks of summer rock!

We have been spending the last few hours preparing for camp tomorrow as well. We came up with another idea for doodles so I was helping my son with those while dh packed up everything.

I actually wish I was going to day camp (unless it is raining). I may go up there Tuesday and Thursday on my days off to at least take lots of pictures. The nice part is I can leave when I want. :p

Have fun this week. It will be over before you know it.

My back is killing me and I just can't cool off enough. I've got a killer headache and did I mention that my back is killing me? So ds & I made it home from day camp today after running a few errands *after* day camp... and I looked SO nasty and absolutely had to run to PetSmart for dog food. Couldn't let the poor dogs suffer long enough for me to take a shower... who could I possibly run into at PS? I'd swear every neighbor that has a pet was in that store . Of course. And I know I stank! Ewwww.

So we get home and I left everything in the truck to wait for dh to get home and unload. He calls about 15 minutes later with some work related sob story and even had the nerve to ask me to pack his bags cuz he was headed to the airport and his trip got moved up. Eh, I probably owed him that one. I had to unload the truck myself :(.

Just 4 more days. 4 more days. 4 more days.

My husband is still up there. I imagine he will walk in and crash from a long day. Everyone out there look so hot! Do you have one of those things that go around your neck to keep you cool? Did the storm help? :P

Dh just got home. Said there were several bee stings, a broken nose, possibly broken arm and lots of heat related nausea. Oh, and the lady earlier in the day that had an allergic reaction to the insect spray.

I saw your DH today - in action. Remind me to tell you about it - I cannot believe how calm and patient your husband can be with those kids.

I've *got* to find my hat. I'm afraid that the suntan lotion will give me a rash and I've got a sunburn :(. My forehead may be crisp by the morning. They gave everyone those green lanyards for water bottles, but nothing really helps this heat. 3 more days... 3 more days... 3 more days... I can't believe what a baby I'm being about this and I really don't know how the rest of them are doing it. And smiling, even.

Oh, I have heard about the hellions he has this week...lol He IS a patient man. I was there at lunchtime, to take pictures, and wanted to strangle a few of those boys. I couldn't believe how awful they were being and the other two women den leaders weren't even saying anything to them. (One was a mom to one of the boys.) The heat has to make it worse. I wasn't out there long and I was miserable. Kudos to you that are out there all week!

I've spent much of this evening researching Poison Ivy/Oak/Sumac. I'm supposed to be spending a small part of the session teaching the kids the rhyme "Leaves of three, let it be; berries white, danger in sight!" and giving them a bit of information on the plants, symptoms, and how to treat.

Every single session that I've had the parents try to help and correct me on the identification. I've never studied these plants and only know the information that I was given. Every single session has contradicted the session before them and identifying these plants looks a lot like how I've heard people identifying snakes... everyone has an opinion and nobody seems to be right. I'd like to be able to give out correct information, but what I've found on the 'net is that there are so many varieties, it's near impossible. I'd love to take a class on this now. I did find a decent amount of information tonight, so I'm taking all of that with me tomorrow. But even the 20+ pages that I've printed out, they all describe the plants very differently.

But now I'm positive that the plants directly behind my canopy area *are* indeed poison ivy! At least one variety of it, anyway.

Forget Poison Ivy. Teach them that hornet stings hurt like HELL!

My finger is twice the size it was earlier. I am so glad I got my wedding ring off in time. Sorry to scare you like that Wilson, on the phone! LOL I was sure I was bit by a snake. That hurt a lot worse than a wasp sting.

I used to think that everyone was affected by poison ivy, but I have come in contact with it and have not broken out. My mother, on the other hand, breaks out REALLY bad if she comes in contact with it.

I've always known I was allergic to poison ivy, but never knew how bad! I came in contact with some last year, don't remember where though. I thought it was maybe ant bites at first, but it got worse and worse...... it was horrible! I finally went to the dr. after trying everything otc only to realize nothing worked - it kept spreading! After some prescription cream, antibiotics and a cortisone shot, things were improved. Now I know to be extra careful when camping, etc. That was not an experience I care to go through again.

I can literally rub it on me and nothing happens. Odd that it doesn't effect some people. I would think everyone would be allergic to it. My mom gets it like you do Triple.

Tomorrow's the last day. Dh is sitting on a plane in Boston or somewhere and their takeoff has been delayed due to weather. Family Day is tomorrow and I hope he can make it.

First Aid was slow today. Two people came in and one was our son who stung by a bee. I was counting up how many bee stings they had this week and they probably had 20 kids stung. NONE of the kids were allergic to bees though. I couldn't believe that out of all the kids who ARE allergic, they weren't the ones stung. Someone posted asking where all of the bees are. They are all up at Camp Strake!

Wilson

I wouldn't say hard. Just a little annoying with the weather sometimes. YMMV.

Wilson
06-21-2007, 11:06 PM
They're definitely at CS! I kept asking people there if they'd read the same articles as I had about the "missing bees" lol. I'm just glad that my youngest (my allergic kid) has spent the week at Camp Grammy. I was worried about ants! Ha!

For my kiddos, ants are worse than bee stings. (Well, I think. They've never actually been stung by bees, but yellow jackets). But, they've "welped up" big time when they've inadvertently stepped in ant beds, and the mosquito bites on them are horrid!

I'm hearing you about summer, though! (Or, this week, but it seems all weeks this time of year are never ending!) Why does this summer seem to be so much busier than any other in recent memory? I'm trying my best to slow down, enjoy the kids, and enjoy life in general, but I'm not making much headway.

I'm trying my best to slow down, enjoy the kids, and enjoy life in general, but I'm not making much headway.

This is what I had envisioned for this summer... but this particular week, since I've sent my youngest to "Camp Grammy" in order to do my best to avoid having to use epi-pens at day camp, this has been the longest I've ever been without either of my children. And it's my youngest! How horrible is that? I just wanted to enjoy them all summer and relax and I haven't even seen my youngest since Sunday :(. He is missing me too, and I'm secretly happy about that - my mom has provided him with everything except a quick trip to Disney and I didn't think he was going to want to come home :p. He called me during lunch today and I cried after hanging up the phone with him. I'm tearing up again now just thinking about him.

Yikes! I hear ya, Wilson!

I was secretly glad when oldest didn't want to go to summer camp this year. I need a little bit of a break from them from time to time, but last year, that was a little much on Mom! A whole week! Too much.

Yet, this summer has just seemed to be so super crazy and super busy. I'm afraid that even with all of us together, I'm not doing some of the "family time" I wanted to do.

Wilson
06-22-2007, 12:14 AM
It's really hard to find that balance. Routines help me - of course, I use a spreadsheet :p, but I can see how much time we spend doing activities and still give the kids enough "freestyle" play, plus limiting their screen time (and mine too ;)). I'm going to have to remember this next week when they are fighting and I'm trying to remember why I was so upset and missing one of them this week...

I hear and understand! LOL!

Part of me wants fun time with my kids, and part of me wants a major break! I don't think I've bought a bra for myself in two years! I'd like to just go buy a bra! And, some decent sandals. And, some shorts. Pedicure might be out of the question, but that would be nice! I've given up thinking I need to shave my legs every time we go to the pool. Otherwise, the kids would never go! LOL!

We've had alot of out of town company, and some of the kids' friends over to the house, and I realize those things are really more important. As is family time. I know that the kids aren't going to remember me for how closely I shaved my legs. Or, the bras I wore.

I'd still like to get some bras, though!

Wilson

I need new bras too! We could swap babysitting for bra runs lol.

Oh, come on, ladies! I've never been super endowed, but they sink, ya know! Then, the belly rises. Sweat forms in closed places!

Women's lib means wearing a bra, as far as I'm concerned!

(How's that for an explanation! LOL!)

FamilyGal

LOL, I didn't think you would really explain it to us! ;) Thanks for the visual though! j/k

BTW, Wilson, hubby said that Mike told him he KILLED the two copperheads they found at camp. Dh was surprised they would kill them and not relocate them. He made sure they knew that he got out of the truck last night and used his foot (crazy, I know) to move the snake out of the parking lot and into the woods. Dh said the snake didn't strike at him or anything. It just moseyed back into the woods. We were both surprised they killed the snakes, being a scout site and all. SO, give ML a HARD time!!!! ;)
