Wouldn't you know that after we pay the entire amount for our daughter's braces, that my husband gets new dental insurance that pays 50%!!!! Arrggh. At least our son's will get half of them paid.
I also forgot that we had accident insurance and after figuring up everything that I qualified for after the wreck, I am getting a $600 check. That is a cool feeling. I completely forgot dh had that supplemental insurance.

I suck at figuring out insurance. We're covered BC/BS for medical and something else (Concordia, I think) for dental but I haven't a clue how to understand the EBTs we get, the benefits or why we're always getting bills other than copays. I've gotten quite a bit of bills and statements saying the Surgery Center hasn't been paid for my older son's stay and I don't know why. Still trying to fully understand the terms like PPO and in/out network. I keep promising to get on the phone but gaaaaaawwwwdddd I hate dealing w/any kind of customer service. Especially if I'm confused to the point I don't even know the right questions to ask. Part of my problem w/Blue Cross is that I never saw any info packet or explanation of our benefits. My SO signed up for all that at the job and we just had cards sent to our house. I'm sure it was explained to him at the time, but I'm also pretty sure he listened about as well as he listens to *equally interesting* things that I tell him.:p

BC/BS has a great website that should answer your questions. Have your card with you so you can figure out if you are ppo or something else.

You'd be surprised at how helpful the insurance company can be if you call them. Have your EOBs in hand, and they can explain to you how to read them, and can probably send you the pertinent info packets, too.
Schnauzermom is right that the info packet is probably available online (as well as copies of your EOBs) but sometimes it is nice to have someone explain them to you.
I used to call my insurance all the time about things that weren't paid and it was usually something filed with an incorrect code, or something I just needed to give the hospital a copy of the EOB for because we weren't responsible for it.
