Hi everyone. I know it is early, but I believe they are lighting the tree and lights tonight. I think it is at 6:30. We will probably take the kids and check it out. Have a good weekend.

Dd and I spent half the day there last Saturday. We only did one street, tho, so we need to go back and do the other. Lots of good Christmas ideas.

I love to go when it's a bit cooler and get the yummy kettle corn. There was a church that use to come out and the choir sang it was nice. The only part I didn't like is when the Preacher decided to get up and preach. I got to church if I want a sermon, it was just nice to hear the music. I don't know if they still go out there, I haven't been in a few years.

You could still get kettle corn today at the PC Craft Show. I bought 2 bags!

It's just something about the cold air, christmas music and kettle corn.

I agree Rose. The place is Christmas and it has to feel like it before I can get rev'd up. Now seeing the trees go up nearby is getting me more interested but not yet! It is too early. I went out on a muggy night in early Novemenr to see a neighbor's tree already lit up in their house. Did they ever take it down last year? - I asked myself.

Too darn soon to see a tree decorated and lit up. Bah humbug! But I do agree that Old Town Spring is pleasant ONLY if the weather is cold. I never buy kettle corn but I love going in and out of the stores in cold weather.

I hate it when the day after Christmas everyone's out decorating. I won't even start till at least the weekend after. Now that the kids are older, the thrill of cutting down the tree is gone, we bought a pre lit one at Walmart one year after Christmas. They don't want to help decorate it or anything anymore. They want me to bake and make all the goodies, but since I have been back to work, I save that for when I am off. And this year I get 3 days off before my youngest does!!!!!!!! Oh, I can do soooo much in 3 days...

We used to only put our tree up on Christmas Eve, but the last 2 years or so have been too hectic with also having to worry about the tree, so we're going to try and do it differently this year. We're thinking about putting up a tree on St. Nikolaus Day (Dec 5), but I think it's too early. We like to celebrate through Epiphany, but it's become less "special" for us since the kids have been in school and go back so early. We're going to have to modify our traditions.

It sure as heck isn't cold this weekend. We were sweating in the tent this weekend. Ugh.

Yeah I forgot y'all were out there. Caming is meant for cool weather and cuddling to the point of freezing but there I draw the line. We went camping one night in February a few years ago and slept in sleeping bags. We were soooo cold that we connected the bags and tried to get everyone into three connected bags. That did not work out well either. I was awake almost all night watching mice trying to take marshmellows into holes in the chimney of the little cabin we rented at the park. The wind howled right through the cabin all night. And I though it would be warmer than a tent. That was the last time we ever did that! I think the temp was in the 30s and wth the wind, no telling what the chill factor was. If I ever go in the winter again, it will be with lots and lots of blankets!

We went camping one here in Huntsville on Thanksgiving weekend and we woke up, the shampoo was frozen! Brrrr. And, I was five months pregnant. What a miserable trip.

Sorry off topic, but can you tell me more about St. Nikolaus Day? I know it's a German thing; my SO mentioned he'd like to have it for the kids here this year and said that it's basically putting some candy in their shoes.
I figure there must be more to it than that. I plan on reading up about it, of course, but if you could share what ways you celebrate it that would be cool.
BTW, I think if a lot of people like to decorate the day after Thanksgiving then Dec 5th wouldn't be too early at all compared to that. Shoot, the way time FLIES from Halloween to New Years you kinda have to start working on it early to get it done in time! Anyone else ever notice that? It's like the year goes on fast-forward mode right at the last quarter.

That's about it :). St. Nikolaus Eve is Dec 5th, and St. Nikolaus Day is really the 6th. On the 5th, the kids leave their shoes by the door and St. Nikolaus comes that night to fill their shoes with candy.

I actually saved those!!! :o For what, I have no idea. I just liked the way they looked so much that I put them in my little souvineir (sp) box. There are a few odd things I will hold on to forever but it is limited to what can fit in my tiny little box.

Hey folks! I am not into camping, but my so is. I didn't make it to the tree lighting, but we went the next afternoon and the kids got to ride the train with Santa and sit on his lap. I got some really cute pictures and they thought they were very special. We got the kettle corn and just wandered in and out of all the shops. I am definitely going back to shop without the kids. Have a great day!
