What is one book that you think everyone should read. Why?

The Red Tent, but I'm not sure I could convince any man to read this :p.

so then, A Prayer for Owen Meany. Everyone should read about the social injustice and faith issues the book deals with.

I really couldn't recommend just one, which is why I've not responded. One book people should read? Well, uh, The Bible? But, I've not worked my way through it myself. It's one of those "things I'll do before I die." The Bible can be very confusing, yet make so much sense at other times. Of course, that's not just one book, but several.

However, I'm getting the idea from this thread I should read "The Red Tent!" LOL! It's been recommended to me before, but I just haven't gotten around to it, yet.

I'm going to have to pull The Red Tent out and read it again. I remember *loving* it so much and some girlfriends of mine read it at the same time and we all got together and would discuss it at great lengths. I'd like to renew those feelings I had while reading it.

I was just thinking that I should ask for this for Christmas, but I probably wouldn't be able to find time to read it until after the kids are grown!

A group of friends and I did the same thing, Wilson. I really enjoyed it, and now that it has been mentioned, I'm wondering which book shelf I put it on.

Thanks for the suggestion of The Red Tent! I just bought it on Ebay and should get it next week - I'm looking forward to it!

My answer would have been the Bible too, but aside from that, I can't think of which book I would recommend yet and why. The only thing that comes to mind is To Kill a Mockingbird, but maybe that's just because I loved it!
