How awful that they dropped them off on the way to their vacation. :(

They are very adorable. I hope you find a home for them. If we ever have another dog it will be another Yorkie. Our first lived almost 17 years. She died in her sleep almost four years ago. I still cry for her sometimes.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Yorkies. My grandparents had one for near 20 years - that girl had a better bloodline than the Queen of England and she was always treated like royalty.

I like the Bassets, a lot! We aren't in a position to adopt one now, but I visited a lady last week who had three, and I fell in love with all of them!

I did see a Doxie/Dalmation (?) mix at one of those roadside stands in front of HobLob not long ago that I fell in love with! (I know! Don't buy there! This particular "breeder" was giving her away though. She was a rescue). Same story, though, not in the position to get another dog. I'd take them all home, if I could.

Our Yorkie was pedigree but she was not standard. She weighed 11 to 12 pounds and was a little taller and longer than she should have been but she thought she was our third kid - actually she thought she was one higher on the pecking order than our son.:p

My sister has three Bassets. She did have four at once until one died last year. Altogether she has had five with her first Basset dying about ten years ago. She works actively with Basset rescue and has housed and transported many which weren't her own. She and her husband are Basset nuts. They go to national Basset get-togethers where people come and bring their dogs.

Eaglesprings, have you considered fostering a hound? It's very rewarding, you get to be a very important part in that dog's life and help it so it will have a wonderful forever home once adopted.

Joanna, You will find most breed specific rescues all full with purebred dogs. Most people are under the impression these are mixes when in fact they are purebred but of course very few are bred to standard.

I have thought about fostering before (not specifically bassets, although that would be a breed I'd enjoy) and husband and I have discussed it, but just haven't come to a definite conclusion. I suppose we feel we aren't "ready" with a lot of other things going on, worrying about getting attached, etc...

Maybe one day!
