I cancelled my family coming up here, as I figured out yesterday that the pool pumps were not working at all and I wasn't sure what the condition of the water would be by today. The weather turned out yucky, so it was probably for the best anyway. We did go to The Woodlands Parade, but afterwards ended up driving out to my parents' house in Clear Lake and stopping to pick up BBQ along the way. We got to their house with brisket, sausage, chopped beef, and all the extras. My nephews finally got there and the kids all played and played, and we ate and watched a couple of movies (World's Fastest Indian - I know how it ends, but I cry so many times during that movie anyway :p) and it continued to rain off and on. We got back up here about 6pm or so and now we've even blown off going to see the fireworks. We stood in the driveway for a bit and watched the local amateur stuff, but what was cool were the bats!! Flying low, swooping closeby, and hopefully feasting on the mosquitos! Very, very cool.
Happy 4th, everyone.

We had a nice day. We didn't make plans, but my FIL called and said he was cooking all sorts of stuff. My BIL bought a bunch of fireworks and it was very cool that he mainly bought stuff the kids could do or help do. My parents came along as well and we had a relaxed afternoon. DH is off with his brother right now seeing the Transformers movie. When the kids and I got home we watched fireworks outside for nearly an hour. in front of our house and especially behind, artillery shells are going off everywhere. They are as close to professional as you can get. All I can say is that these people must have spents HUNDREDS on all of it. Doesn't matter to me - we got to enjoy them - and we don't have to clean up the mess later! They are still going off everywhere - I'm getting quite a show while I sit here!
DD and DS said it was the best 4th of July ever! Glad you guys had a great day :)

I'm glad you had a good day as well :).
You know you're getting old when the neighbors shoot off a bunch of fireworks and all you can think about is "there just went $100" lol. That's exactly what we were saying outside!

EXACTLY!! DH's brother said "I didn't get alot, I just spent $65." I was like "Whoa, that's too much!" I am serious when I say the people behind us must have spent at least $500 or more just for tonight AND they were doing this all night yesterday. I can't justify that kind of indulgence! I guess I am getting too old - I will hit the big 3-0 later this year :)

I wonder what you can get for $10 anymore... that would be about what I'd be willing to spend on something so um, vanishing, y/k? Maybe next year we'll splurge and get the kids some sparklers ;).

We did nothing. DD has been running a high fever, and her pedi sent us to the ER on the 3rd. Her fever seemed to break yesterday evening and she has slept all night. I'm supposed to take her back in today so the doc can check her again.
The fireworks didn't seem to bother her though, so I'm glad. Looking forward to next year. She'll be bigger and we'll probably be able to enjoy things like the parade with her more.

We parked our truck up at the Office Depot parking lot, went to eat at Mama Juanita's, then went back to watch fireworks with several friends and their kids. It was very nice out and a great show. When we got home our neighbors were shooting off fireworks so we stayed outside to watch them with the kids. I always think the same thing about how much $$ they spend and how I am glad it isn't us. Although I AM the one to eventually go out and clean the mess up. They will just let them sit out there in the rain and eventually wash to the ditch.
We did have a good time. I'm glad it stopped raining long enough to enjoy the evening. My youngest son was whining yesterday that it was "NO FAIR" that it was raining on the 4th of July and we couldn't see fireworks. I'm glad he got to see them and things were FAIR again. ;)

Well, we had to go do another blood draw, and she was feeling good enough to fight the poor lady that had to stick her. Then we went to the doc to have a shot of antibiotics. We'll have to have more antibiotics tomorrow, and apparently this is something that she can't take orally. The good news is that I can keep her home since her fever broke. If she was still running a fever, we'd be in the hospital. :(
I've been reading about all ya'lls spots to watch fireworks so I'll know where the best spots are next year.:D

We were so sick of the rain we got in the car and now we are in Santa Fe, NM. It is beautiful here! With the altitude, one glass of wine and I have a great buzz going!
We did Carlsbad Caverns yesterday and Roswell, NM this morning. This is the 60th Anniversay of the landing. It was cool to see all the people dressed up, etc.
We will be heading back to the area leaving here on Saturday and should be home on Sunday. I think I will take Monday off of work too just to catch up.

Nice!! Great idea, too! Dh was supposed to be off this week and we were hoping to go to Sea World or do a Bed & Breakfast in the Hill Country. A major contract came in that he has to finish and it's probably for the best with the central Texas weather. NM sounds perfect, though!
