Has it been flooding in your area? I have seen reports on the news about mass flooding in Texas and just wanted to figure out if it floods there before I move.

No flooding that I'm aware of. I thought it was all in the DFW area? North Texas to Oklahoma?

I heard it was all the way from San Antonio up to Dallas.

Ah, I didn't realise that SA was being affected as well. That sucks. It's rained here everyday for almost 3 weeks I think (at least it seems that long), but no flooding. SA is about 3 hours away, Dallas is 4h.

If it's not flooding here now, just wait, we'll get our turn sooner or later:cool:

LOL! Yeah, what's that Texas motto? "If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes"?

Gotta come visit us here in Michigan. :P I remember in February, it was snowing, lightning, and sunny all at the same time. It was below 10 degrees that day. 2 days later, it was 75. It's all because of the lakes.

Eh, I've lived in Michigan! I have fond memories of going to play on the ice at Lake Michigan. And yes, I miss it!

I've lived out here 20 years and the only part of Woodlands I have ever seen flood was out of Sawdust. Timberlakes/Timberridge floods also. My yard is saturated with some standing water this evening.

If TW does not flood as a result of all the water we've gotten these past few weeks, I'd say we are pretty safe from flooding (except in those areas previously mentioned). Houston floods really badly but we seem to stay high and dry most of the time.

Our yard is really saturated as well. There is standing water in several places. I HAVE to mow soon. It is driving me nuts. (I'm pretty particular about the grass and this is just bad..lol)
We lived in Timber Lakes in the 94' flood. Our home didn't flood but we were surrounded by the flood waters and were evacuated with only what we could carry. Which, at the time, were 6 week old twins. We stuffed backpacks with diapers and baby stuff and then waded through waist deep water while the firemen carried my dh's elderly mother through the water. What a PITA. Thankfully our home never flooded, but that subdivision was never the same. Most of the owners moved and investors bought up the previously flooded homes and made them rentals. It went really down from then on. Then, they were flooded again in 2000.

The 94 flood was the worst it's ever been in Timberlakes/Timberridge. I have family that lives in Timberlakes and they said it never was as bad as it was in 94. But we were ok over here just saturated and it's rained more days then it did when it flooded, the good thing is that the sun comes out once in a while and gives it a little time to dry up. My water bill has been a lot less since we haven't had to water the yard!!!

We used to live on Valerie on the second block. It went uphill so we never worried about our own house getting flooded. Glad to hear no one is getting water damage over there.

We were supposed to have our pool dug today. Luckily we have no standing water and the ground is wet but not mushy so hopefully they will start Monday. It looks like the builder did a decent job on the grade.

Have your parents already bought a house here? Are they going to buy? Do you know which area/village?

Have your parents already bought a house here? Are they going to buy? Do you know which area/village?
My dad headed out yesterday and has to report to work monday in Houston. I guess he will be looking at houses for a week or two, then my mom will fly down and they will spend a week looking together and will be buying a house then. They don't know what village, but just looking at location and talking with his new co-workers, I think he mentioned Cochran's and Alden Bridge.
The only problem is that our house here has somehow depreciated almost $15k from what they bought it for, plus they took out a home equity loan to make some renovations. So unfortunately they have to sell the house for almost $20k more than the appraisal price to break even with what they owe. I have no clue how a house can depreciate when you remodel two bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, a fireplace and a kitchen. They also have won awards for the apperance of the lawn, because they work so hard on it.
Anyone got any ideas on how we can get more for the house without spending money? :P

I don't know about that, but the housing market here is hot, hot, hot. They'll see sticker shock in a GOOD way when they start looking though. Texas is notoriously "cheap" in COL, especially when compared to Michigan. What they lose in Michigan, they'll most likely make up for it here. Alden Bridge & Cochran's Crossing are both great. I live in AB; CC is more in the middle of TW and central to everything. You really can't go wrong with any of the villages, though.

JOliver, if your dad works in Houston and is going to travel down I-45 to work he will probably want a village that's closer to the interstate. As Wilson mentioned Cochran's Crossing is centralized but the far reaches of it can be 15 minutes to the interstate. Alden Bridge is nice but it is one of the farther villages. All of the villages have something special to offer and you can't go wrong if you pay close attention to what is close by.

Yea, the only problem is that they will owe 20k+ if we can't sell the house and end up having to sell it to his company. :/
Also, with the transportation, I think he was hoping there was mass transit. I hear there is a fairly good bus system there?

For commuters with regular hours and no need for a car in the city (or employeed by a company that has cars on-site for their employees to use during the workday) there is:
