Donellys Pizza is a pizza place on Rayford Rd By Imperial Oaks. My family has used this pizza place for a few years now, but we will no longer be sending our business to them.

Lately we have run into some strong problems that effects a member of my family very personally. My sister is deaf, and they have continuously hung up on her when she calls them using a relay service (Texas Relay) to order to go. When prompted as why, they told her that they were too busy to deal with her special needs and hung up again. The Texas Relay service is very easy to use, and only takes a few seconds to understand what is going on. She uses a computer and types to a person who calls for her. It is not a complicated procedure, yet they refuse to serve my sister. I personally went in and asked to speak to a manager, and the answer I was given was that they had the right to refuse service to anyone they choose. That answer is as wrong as it is callus and completely rude. They do not have the right to refuse service to someone soley because they are deaf, hearing impaired, blind, handicaped, sexual orientation, race or gender.

My sister has her limitations because she cannot hear, but ordering pizza should not be one of them. She has never had a problem eating out anywhere, ordering food to be delivered or even going through the drive throughs at fast food (she takes a pen and pad). The only time she has ever been treated as a second class citizen was at this establishment, and I am quite angry over it. I felt the need to share this with you, and I hope that anyone who gives their patrongage to this business will think differently or even just mention it to the company.

Thank you for your time, and I hope your day goes well.

Wow, I have been buying from Donnelys for years. For the most part, I have had great service, but that is awful. For awhile, they were the only place that would deliver to us. But now, we use Papa John's. That's a shame about them. They have good pizza and have been around awhile.

I would send a letter to the Villager and whoever else you can think of. That is just wrong and their answer was even worse.

OMG that is so wrong (and illegal, no???) and I'm shocked. {{{{hugs}}}} to your sister. I hope Donelly's next call is from Karma.

Joe's Pizza & Pasta up at Portofino is excellent, if she's looking to try somewhere else - 936-271-0203.

Umm. Wow. That is unacceptable. We won't be eating there anymore.

OT: Is your sister involved with meet-up?

I've been making a list of places to try when we move to The Woodlands in a few months. Donnellys is definitely going on my list of places to AVOID. How unbelievably rude

Anyone who chooses not to eat there anymore should make a point of letting the manager know why. I think I'll stop by when we are living there and let the manager know in person why I won't be eating there and why I'll recommend to anyone I talk to not to eat there either.

But now, we use Papa John's.

I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but around here you can order online from Papa John's.

Wow, what a bunch of dirt bags. I hope there business goes to hell because they deserve it. There is simply no excuse for this type of behavior in 2008. I would encourage you to write to every major news outlet to let them know about this. Surely there is an advocacy group for your sister who will take action as well?

That was my first thought -- an advocacy group getting on their sorry butts!

That place used to be Pizza Tonight, I believe. We felt the service and quality went downhill when it became Donnelly's, so never order from them, anymore. But, now, we have even more reason not to try them again!

I am laughing only because i bitched about them on WUG two years ago and everyone said nothing but good things about Donelly's.

Kraaz--I know the system your talking about I have a friend from softball that uses it. I have two deaf girls on my team.

My two problems with Donelly's(Don and Kelly).

Now i have had deliever many of times no problems. Other than once they came to my house and he forgot my pizza. goofy guy.

First time i went in there to eat the buffet, Don was yelling and cursing at one of his kitchen help and told him to go outside and sit in the middle of the parking lot and he might give him his last check. the place was packed. Everyone shaking there heads at the owner.

second time was my wife swung in to get a pizza on night i had a ball game. She ordered a one topping pizza. It took hour and half. Don told her that his regulars come first and then Delivery. Once my wife got her small pizza it was burnt. Don told her he will make her another one but it might take time and he will have to charge her for two pizza's. Didnt fly to well with the wife. She laid into him and he goes it doesnt matter i still have your money from the first one. She goes no you dont because I used my bank card. Most of yall know what my wife does. Big mistake...wife got her money back and has been a thorn in Donelly's side.

Also a new heads up for Donelly--Double Daves(who gave me 3 free pizza's after I told the owner why I would never order from him.He said 3 pizza's is worth getting business specially if he can get orders from my wife's office), Mr. Gatties, Little Ceaser(right across the street from Donelly), and Zio's Pizza. nothing like four new companies to take his business I hope he goes the way of Grubsteaks.

Donelly's reminds me of Bo's Video's back home. Bo's had the market in my home town. He was the same way he treated everyone like crap. Well one day a customer got pissed and talked Hollywood Video into selling him a store. He put it right in the parking lot of one his stores. Bo is no more. Matter of fact he is in jail for not paying taxes for 10 years on his employees and only giving them below min.

Public accommodations must comply with basic nondiscrimination requirements that prohibit exclusion, segregation, and unequal treatment. They also must comply with specific requirements related to architectural standards for new and altered buildings; reasonable modifications to policies, practices, and procedures; effective communication with people with hearing, vision, or speech disabilities; and other access requirements. Additionally, public accommodations must remove barriers in existing buildings where it is easy to do so without much difficulty or expense, given the public accommodation's resources

This comes from a portion of the ADA. I would say just by reading the part with effective communication with people with hearing etc they are in violation of the ADA by refusing to serve her because of her disability.

Here's a good webiste to check out the ADA http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/adahom1.htm

It took hour and half.

I've had that experience before as well. I forgot about that until you mentioned it. They DO take forever when you order in the restuarant.

So, is Grubsteaks gone? They had to be the most overpriced sandwich place I have yet to see. Not to mention, the sandwiches tasted like something I could make at home. NOTHING special about them. AND, they took forever.

I am so thrilled to have Double Dave's over here now. We have already had a scout function there and eaten there with friends. Bye bye Donnelly's. He really screwed up. He would have struggled with the other places coming anyway, but with the customer service several experienced, he is not going to make it.

I use to like them, but once Pappa John's started delivering to my area, I stopped using them. (I love ordering online. I just had to wait for other pizza places to expand their delivery area to our subdivision.)

I appreciate all of the support, and my sister does too. I plan on asking her if she would like me to write to the villager about this. I have never been one for Donellys Pizza, and now I have a full on hate for them. This Don fellow must not be very business savvy, if so he would know that customer service is as good as the food. He may have had a corner on the market over there, but now he has plenty of competition. I have always been a fan of double daves, and now there is one right there on rayford and i believe hannah road.

I hope these other places decide to be decent human beings and take a few seconds of their time to help someone else.

Double Dave's is on the corner of Rayford and Richards. Right across from Richards from Walgreens, in the same parking lot with Mario's and the aforementioned and now defunct Grubsteaks.:)

momX5---we agree with you on this end. Hint the reason why we always had to go and pick up our pizza. I even had trouble in the past with Double Dave's..which i did post on here about. The new double dave's offered me 3 free large pizza's even though he has no ties to the other double daves.

Its amazing how just a customer service can make up for extra couple of bucks.

MSU, I got a question. What does your wife using her bank card (I assume you mean debit) to pay for the pizza have to do with getting her $$ back???

Are you saying it is an easy thing to do if you use your debit card? Details please.

I didn't know you could do this with a debit card, but credit cards usually work with their own customers who dispute charges.

I was hoping so too. They registered yesterday. It was at the bottom of the screen for awhile as the newest user. Others have signed up since then, so you don't see it now.

Nah, they were evidently just curious. Someone told them what was being said here, and they thought they'd check it out.

They'll either change, or not. The fact they left no explanation makes me think they probably won't change, but that might be unfair. Maybe they will. Perhaps they can hold onto some future customers! Or, maybe they're wanting to sell, anyway? The possibilities are really endless!

Or perhaps the person that signed up and viewed wasn't in a position to reply (not the owner perhaps). Just trying to give the benefit of the doubt.

I do think it is appropriate and good that she (hopefully) apologized personally to Kraazynak on behalf of his sister.

Honestly I don't think B4-u-eat is worth the current going through your monitor right now. Reason being is that the restaurant owner can post their own reviews, some of them are blatantly obvious. The opinion of people I know is invaluable.

Actually, B4-U-eat does not let managers of restaurants post reviews...even if they are positive ones or negative ones about other restaurants. They said that they have had problems with that in the past, having owners bad mouth other places of business to gain more for themselves, etc. They are able to track who the reviews come from by the ip addresses and email addresses.

B4-U-Eat is certainly better than nothing, but I'm not impressed in general with the quality of the reviews there. Reviewers can (and often do) create a new identity for each review, so you've got no way to put context around a review.

And while they don't WANT restaurant management to do reviews, believe me, it happens there.

If you're looking for a good site with lots of restaurant reviews for Houston, Yelp is the best I've found.

I love family-run businesses, but Donelley's sounds like the type to be avoided. Bad customer service usually starts from the top, and when it does, it's not gonna change. Even if the food is good, a bad experience ruins it.
