Anyone going to see anyone in Houston any time soon? I go to them often. But I don't have children to worry about.
There are some good ones coming to town.
Tomorrow Night is OneRepublic and Eric Hutchinson at the Meridian. I will be attending for Eric Hutchinson. I love him.
Then I am seeing Bob Schneider at Warehouse Live on Valentine's Day. And G. Love and Tristan Prettyman at Warehouse Live Feb. 21st.
There are some good ones about to hit I bet with the new season. Downtown will be Hopping before long. As well as the Pavilion!!

I hope this link works!

Hi! I haven't been to a concert in a while! I went to see Bon Jovi and Nickelback at the Steeler celebration!! We had a good time, but I usually cannot stand the crowds. We have kids, so going out doesn't happen often. Have fun!!

I just gave my neighbors across the street foofoo fighters.

now i am going to see Van Helan with David Lee Roth.

I have a good friend that works for livenation so he throws me tickets here and there. some are good some are bad some are just kick ass. Foo foo people the tickets were on the second row from the stage. But i have seen events sitting at the top and almost behind the stage and you had a pole to look around. We are more into what his wife (soon to be ex, but she is a great person so i cant bash her) offers she is the ticket boss for Hobby Center.

It's about ten years since I have been to a concert. I used to go to the Pavilion all the time when it first opened. When I lived in Germany we used to go to all sorts of shows, I vaguely recall shows like U2's Zooropa tour in Bremen, Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, Black Crows, Bjork, Red Hots, Rage Against the Machine and many more...

Believe it or not the best show ever...

Aerosmith @ Roskilde, Denmark!

If you are a Pink Floyd fan, you don't want to miss this on May 4th at The Pavilion. Some info here:

He was last at The Pavilion around 2000 or so. It was a fantastic concert. This looks to be a very limited tour and perhaps the last?

I listen to Petty all the time on XM Radio (XMS channel 2). He always excuses himself to go smoke! He's taken on that "groovy man..." persona similar to Bob Dillon (who incidentally also has a show on XM).

we got tix for radiohead yesterday. they went on sale at ticketmaster at noon and by 12:06 only lawn seats were left. That's ridiculous. I then check ebay to see 2 "pit" tickets sell for $700. There's definitely something wrong with this picture.

Gah. Aerosmith. I have had aerosmith seat tickets THREE TIMES and stuff comes up and I can't make it. I have to see them eventually.
I also want to see Stevie Wonder. I know he was just in town. I missed him.
I am seeing Tristan Prettyman at The meridian in April. Yay! I haven't seen her in a while! She is also going to be opening for G. Love on thursday. I wish I could see her perform her 6 opening songs then hustle over to see Bob. But, I really want to see Bob more. I'd rather see her Headlining.

I found this slide show of fans at Jimmy Buffett shows (mostly the partying in the parking lot, I guess). This looks sooooooooooooo up my alley!!!
I'm just worried about one thing: Do you think this sort of thing is allowed at CWM Pavillion? I mean...do they actually get this crazy(fun) in the Woodlands? For some reason I'm worried this sort of commotion would be frowned upon here. Surely they wouldn't let people set up their own tiki bars at the parking, would they?

I've heard that the local Parrothead club is having a weekend long pre concert party at Papa's Ice House the weekend preceeding the concert. I think the concert goers should be ready after a weekend long pre party!

Huh. I just saw that it was for the day of; a 'Pre-concert' party.
I still hope someone can tell me if it's going to be as fun at the Pavilion here as it is in other venues. I'm seriously considering swallowing every ounce of my pride (vanity) and dressing up like one of these fools! Why not? I'd probably regret not doing so looking back....
I'm just afraid around here (where I consider it a bit more uptight) I could very well be the ONLY one in the spirit of things! That would look funny! :bag:

Yyyyyyyyyeeeaaaahhhh, you're right! :D:D:D I'm totally going to go for it. (I'll even post embarrassing pics afterwards!)

I have this feather boa (that I just *happened* to get from a friend a few years back on my birthday) that is multicolored. Seriously tacky---but tropical-like colors. I have some equally hideous hot pink flip flops with tropical flowers glued over the thong-part. (an old lady-neighbor gave them to me when I was pregnant with my last kid to wear at the hospital ) I kept them for sentiment but until now couldn't imagine ever actually wearing them.
I figure some old beads we have from Mardi Gras, the boa, a bikini top and those shoes will be perfect. I have a cool bohemian style skirt to wear but if I can figure out where you buy grass skirts, even better!
I will convince my SO to at least wear a Hawaiian shirt, I'm sure.
A co-worker of his and fellow parrothead offered to let us take his 'Margerator' today. I think that was what he called it, anyway. It's a portable Margarita blender/station for tail-gating and such.
Again, the whole Woodlands rules come to mind, though. I just seriously doubt they would allow drinking like that. Not that that is a bad thing.....just kind of a bummer for the show.
Can anyone tell me if they even sell alcohol at CWM Pavilion? I've never been.

natvtxn

They sell plenty of alcohol. Lots of different beer, Margaritas (wine based), daiquiris (wine based), wine.

I still want to see The Police! Lucky!

I have a busy month!!! I am seeing Bob Schneider at Bend Studio on April
11th. I have never been to this venue. It is pretty expensive and it's a solo acoustic show. I love it when it's just him and guitar. But I love the band too. Then I drive to New Orleans for the Music,Magic, Makepeace Show. I can't even Begin to explain how excited I am for this. I am meeting up with like...7 of my Jason Mraz board members! AAA!! From Austin, Atlanta, and Tennessee. Then I am taking 2 girls one is a board member from Humble and one is my bud! That's April20th-22nd. Then I come home and see Bob again at CRAWFISH FEST!! In Old Town Spring!! Aaaaa!!! I told them it's like 7 mins from my house! Haha! I am super excited.

Make sure you have a Texas drivers license. There was a complaint I read recently where a 61 year old man was denied a beer at the pavilion because he didn't have a TX license.

Remember too that the CWMP draws people from ALL over the area not just from The Woodlands, I would guess that the majority are from some where else.

Yes, you will need an ID. I've worked on the hill (for high school soccer) many, many times. They are required by Aramark (food services for CWMP) to ID EVERYONE! And not just ID you once, EVERYTIME! Actually it is ridiculous, but there is a cop in the stand and he/she is making sure ID's are checked. I'm not sure why the passport was not accepted, because we were allowed to accept passports as well as military ID's.

The two stands on the hill and the big long stands on the north and south sides are ran by different groups to raise $. South hill is TWHS soccer booster club; north hill used to be a Jewish organization (not sure if it still is); north plaza was maybe Oak Ridge (?) band and I don't remember who did the south plaza. The people at the kiosk-ish stands are employees of Aramark.

I worked the Hill for the JB concert. We didn't stop all night. It was hard work but the crowd was nice and generous with tips for the non-profit that we were representing. The course that you take in order to work at the Pavilion really puts the fear of God into you about checking ID's.

I would have gone in a heartbeat if I could have gotten tickets. I love Jimmy Buffet. But, I heard you could get high just from all of the smoke. Dh and I worried about a random drug test after attending that concert...LOL

We have a friend that will not attend any concert for that very reason. Sometimes, if the smoke is thick enough, I have heard you can test positive for it. Anyone know if that is true?

We DID smell a particular kind of smoke around us that night! I was shocked. Some people are just plain stupid. Would getting caught and going to jail for the night (plus missing the rest of the show) really be worth it? Some people just clearly don't think about that.
I never really thought of JB having much to do with pot-smoking but maybe that's just something done at all outdoor concerts, as it certainly isn't the first time I've smelled it at them.
As far as your question about 'contact highs' and positive testing....NO that would not be cause for concern. In the Army my SO was told in some class for drugs that even if you were in a locked chamber the size of a phone booth full of smoke for over an hour, it would not be enough to register on a test. Secondly, the tests show the amount (in nanograms) so they can determine if the levels are truly a result of smoking it, how often and how much if so.
Contact highs are virtually impossible and basically a myth. ;)

I was talking to a friend today and asking her to meet me tonight to go over some scout stuff. She said she couldn't because they had the Jimmy Buffet concert. I asked if he had two concerts because I know there was one last week.

Come to find out, her husband put the (expensive) tickets in the envelope, put the date on it and she never double-checked. He had this week's date instead of last week. I feel bad for her. She was so upset she missed the concert.

This reminds me. Can I come hide at one of yall's houses here soon for a weekend? My SO's mom is coming and I've never got over my fear of her. I've never even met her in person and we've been together 7 years!!!!!
And no...I don't WANT to! I've successfully dodged this every chance that came up! :D Fear of judgments. I don't know what to act like around moms. Especially the mother of the guy I sleep with. Totally foreign and weird to me. Plus, I feel like she'd think I suck as a mom or something. Too many stories from the SO about her awesome perfection and glory while he was growing up...June Cleaver.

Anyway. So yeah; I need to plan a little vacation or something. Or worse...find one of my own long-lost fam-members to go visit when she comes. I'd rather squat at a stranger's, though. I'll clean for boarding! :D

Oh and about concerts: I'm going to see Kid Rock and Lynard Skynard but I forget when they are coming. That's gonna be FUN!

Okay. My awesome hubby got tickets to Dave Matthews!!!!!!!!!!!!! That rocks! I love me some Dave!! I am so excited and surprised!! How cool. We are in the grass area, but it will still be so awesome! Yeah!! MMM, I know how you feel about the som, but it would be better to meet her and let the chips fall. You never know, she may love you to death and you will have a new friend! Or she may hate you and be a can't cut the cord type. I can tell you from experience that it has been a rocky road for me and my mil, but I am her sons wife and that is life. You have been with your so long enough that I would think she would love you for making him happy. I would also hope that he would stand up to her if she decides to be unkind. I think you should go for it, be your true self and see what happens!!! BTW my mil and I get along much better than we used to, but it took me standing up for myself and 1300 miles!:D

I was scared to death to spend any real time with my MIL for the first time, but things went well and we get along okay now. It's best to just get it over with it. Don't think that I'm not tempted by your cleaning offer though, my house could really use it.

Hey Danielle, dh and I are thinking about going to see John Mayer. Have you or anyone else seen him in concert? We are wondering if you get to see the real JM or if it's candy-coated JM with tons of screaming teenage girls there.

I have seen John Mayer three times. The first time was in 04, he was horrible. No stage presence. Just stood and played and left. The next time I saw him was last year. He was so great! It was like he was playing for tips. He ripped it up. He may not be the best singer songwriter out there (my opinion) but MAN can he rip up a guitar! I also saw him last weekend. He did an amazing job. I think he is an awesome guitarist. His openers for the Pavilion are colbie Caillat and Brett Dennen. Colbie is a typical singer songwriter girl, all her songs sound very samey. Brett Dennen is amazing. I would go just to see him again. I absolutely love him. He is such a young guy with such a strong soulful voice. He is an amazing person as well. He does alot for the world. As much as he can.

I have 2 more Bob shows coming up! Then tickets go onsale August 2nd for JASON MRAZ at The Verizon Wireless Theater!! WEeeeeeee!!!!

Hey Howdy! I sooooo want to see him and I am sure it would be awesome! Do you have the Continuum CD? There is a live cd that rocks!!! I don't know when he is coming, but I think my dh's family will be here and I can't go. Let me know a date and if all is good, I will go with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

The live cd? Is that the Where the Light Is cd? I have both the cd and Dvd! It's amazing! I love that version of Vultures and Good Love is on The Way!

I'd valet at Grotto, or park in that paid parking lot across from Goose's Acre. Maybe you can park in the Marriott garage? I don't know - I'm still paranoid from all the towing they did after Market Street was finished!

I don't know if DM and crew will prohibit them, but @ Jimmy Buffett's show we found out as soon as we hit the entrance that they were searching people to make sure they didn't have cameras. I had mine, so we had to hoof it back to the car to lock it up.
Are you sitting on the lawn? We did and I really enjoyed it; had a great view.
We brought a blanket to sit on and my SO carried a small flask of rum inside it.
I can't remember for sure now but I believe the beers were like $11 a piece and we also bought a couple of cokes for our contraband.
Have fun at the show! I saw DM on a mountain-top amphitheater in Birmingham, Alabama in 1998. BEST concert I've ever been to! He played forever.

Things are different for different concerts. Some you cannot even take a blanket into, nor umbrellas. Look on CWMP website and it will tell you exactly what you can/cannot take in.

Wilson is right about the parking. I hate to pay to valet park, but this is one exception!

Yeah 'cause I checked the website before our show and it wouldn't let me know if the artist I was seeing specifically would ban them or not. It just says that some do. I had no way of knowing until we got there.

YES, Dave Mathews will be okay to bring cameras, AND recording equiptment if you want. They are one of the few who follow the Grateful Dead way..
they also like to stay realllly late, keeping security there foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr..

FWIW, i worked there a couple summers. Mostly I kept drunks from going backstage, and talked OTHER drunks from trying to help their "friends" who came past with officers... Oh the stories I could tell. :rolleyes1:
Got to do on-stage stuff alot too, much fun.

Many of the rules are last minute things, due to the band(s) sometimes not conveying info. The kids with the blue shirts at the gate get these details as they head out there. ANyone with a radio (some blue shirts) and anyone with green shirt can tell you.

The rules outside of the beverage ones, are that of the performer.
TABC guys are real jerks most times (even the cops laugh at them).
Due to the Pavillion having a liquor license, it would really require some sort of taste test, (something) for every bottle of water carried in just to make sure, and it really isnt worth it to them.

Bug spray in an aerosol can is a no-no, but a pump bottle is ok.
(reason for that too)
Ever have the concession guy tell you that you cant have the bottle cap for you water? Band rule. you might throw it.. Makes zero sense, as that is the least of the things that will hurt you if you get hit, ya now?

Buy your goodies form the south plaza, TWHS band operates that booth!

There is more to this rule. I worked on the south hill for 5 summers for TWHS soccer booster club. Get ready for this...people PEE in them and THEN throw them! So, it became necessary to take the tops off before selling. This rule was only in effect for the "wilder" concerts like Buzzfest.

oh, they pee in them now? It USED to be tossing them. And you knew what?
It was because some time, somewhere, it may have happened ONCE.
Natv, do you know our DeputyDJ? She hasn't posted in ages and ages, but we speak off the boards. Missed her last year when I visited, as she had shows to work, and is with MCSD. Her husband is the head of security there, (paul), and really, the stories!!!! From the inane to the bizarre. You want to see something amazing, is seeing her (deputyDJ), all 5'2" of her take down a huge guy in 10 seconds.
THEN watching the humiliation pour over his face. She's a hoot.

The no outside chairs has a reason, the hill is just that, a hill. they end up tipping over and someone always gets injured. the bug spray was because kids would use it with a lighter to make flame throwers. never a good thing.
Not sure how they can really BAN cameras anymore, everyone has a camera phone anyway. I had groups give strict orders about posters, flowers! The little girls love to show the luv. They gleefully take the cost of the ticket price, but NO POSTERS.. pffft

Quite frankly, most of them really need to get over themselves. Mariah was a diva, but she gave those of us working backstage cake one night.
Neil Young had some orders for us ( I had ON stage left for that show WOOHOO). We all had to have a note pad and pen. WHY???
IF ayone in the audience ever said they knew him, or had met him 20 years ago (whenever) he wanted to know what seat so he could give a wave or acknowledge them! How cool is that! Michael Stipe tried to feed me, and Snoop invites everyone to the party. Jimy Buffet was (to my disappointment) one of the least shows to work. Those of us on the floor near the stage were forbidden from ever looking at the show. Watch the audience ONLY at all times. NO PEAKING! I never would have thought this of JB. Prince, it is expected. avert your eyes, or turn your back if he is passing.

Me, the idiot, would often pretend I didnt see a water bottle in someone who OBVIOUSLY had an unopened water in the purse. There are some dimwits out there who didnt have the sense to work with me... Yeah, I can see Wilson, or Familygal types going to major extremes to reseal a water bottle full of vodka... They would whip it out and say " Do I need to get rid of this? Or, I duess you didnt see this, dont want to get you in trouble".. after I said some thing like, oops, contraband, I dont really see it though"... HINT!

I highly recommend working there for a summer. Its a lot of fun, the cash sucks, and you arent guarenteed being able to see every show you work, but they do try to rotate you around. Its part time, and fun people.

Linkin park puts on a good show, Norah Jones had the audience half asleep... me too! your best bet is carry your wallet. period. will get you through the line faster!

Linkin park may not allow blankets though. Or, in this case it may be a pavillion decision. They(kids AND adults)take the 4 corners and fling another into the air. People get hurt. Moshing is kinda of out now, depending on the type of show.

Something smallish is usually ok, enough size to sit your butt on.

you know what, the WORST hows to work are, as far as fights and stuff?
The country shows! the all day noon to 11 ones. I have no idea how anyone can drink THAT much lite (crap) beer at 3-4 dollars a pop and get that trashed.
After that (or maybe just as equal) are the old school head banger shows.
Pantera, Def Lepard, etc. anything that brings out the meth heads, gang bangers, mexican mafia, and east texas trailer types who only get out once a year.
The "wimmin" eventually take off their shirts and flash, at which point "someone's looking at my wife" sets off a fistfight. usually near the last song... Always something to look forward too..!

the mellow shows are (believe it or not) things like 50-cent, Snoop, etc.
You wouldnt think so would you. They have their own monster-man security teams working the crowds, and most of the audience is just stoned.
It is the alcohol that causes the problems! Gee, who would have EVER thought alcohol trumps pot.... :eeek:

HA! Talk about polar opposite. Wow. Linkin Park and Norah Jones. Expect LOUD! And rowdy. Erf. It should be a great show though. Linkin Park is pretty good. The have a lot of actual music mixed in with their screaming. Pretty good.

I am seeing Ernie Halter at a place called The Landing in LaPorte at the end of the month. Then I have way to much Bob. If my friends weren't going I wouldn't go either. I see him September 5th in Helotes, then I see him twice in Houston(once solo! WOOO), then 4 times in Austin. That's only in September. Then I see my friend Andrew Hoover at Walter's on Washington in October, which I am SUPER excited about. He is a VERY talented young man. Search Youtube for Andrew Hoover "Come On". He is turning 21 today. Then I see Jason Mraz in Austin, Dallas, and Houston for his tour. then November I am flying out to Atlanta to Meet up with some friends and catch him again. Then day after Christmas I am hoping to see Bob again, he will be at the new HOuse of Blues in Houston. Then I may take a break. I really need to get into school to get paid for this type of thing. I could do concert reviews! Haha.

I haven't seen anyone at the pavilion in Forever.

Never locked in "stone" as I heard Busta missed one or two, but..

It should be very close to this schedule. What they are calling the "revolution stage" (Generally referred to as a "side stage" at the venue) is in the north plaza, just inside the main gates and/or another next to it.
Many times acts are added from the local scene at these shows, but the headliners will be the late ones. Most people come in well after festival start times, unless it is a really GOOD festival (lollapalooza for example).

SET TIMES:

REVOLUTION STAGE
ARMOR FOR SLEEP - 2:00 PM
HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS - 2:40 PM
10 YEARS - 3:20 PM
ATREYU - 4:20 PM
STREET DRUM CORPS - 5:10PM

MAIN STAGE
ASHES DIVIDE - 5:40 PM

many of those early showcase bands end up headlining the next year or two if they are lucky. Not saying they SHOULD be headlining, lots of one hit wonders ya know, but..

I was mama of the year for #1 sons 15th birthday. I was able to arrange wrist bands (pit passes) for him to Lollapalooza. You can't buy those anywhere so he was hooked up. I kept him supplied with gatorade and iced towels (staff stash<G>). He still has the souveniers hanging on his wall and he will be 20 in September. OMG.. 20!!!

I am so interested to see what makes the cut for the show. They had us doing soundclips and stuff. Then he told stories before each song. But what I REALLY hope they show is when he comes strolling out on stage looks directly at me and asks how I am doing. I just smile and say "hehe goood." He remembered me from New Orleans!!
