My wife and I own and operate a little salon on Kuykendahl. I would like to introduce our services to this forum for what we are, who we are and how we are different. This is bit lengthy but should be easy reading.

Our staff is fluent in various languages including English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Portuguese. All of our technicians love to work with children and will work with both men and women. When you enter the shop, it will resemble other salons but we offer several services for which we claim excellence that you will find either difficult to locate in other places or might not want to pay their price.

Like all nail salons, we obviously do nails in the front of our salon. Our shop emphasizes cleanliness and sanitation. Some people think that the fancy expensive salons are clean. Some of our clients tell us something entirely different. We are glad to explain our sanitation practice to any clients. We do not have a teaching certificate, so other salons, please stay away and do not ask us to spend our time with you.

We have three technicians plus my wife who have various skills with nails. Our pedicure Brazilian specialist Marcia is focused on dealing with all aspects of the feet. She graduated top of her class and was recommended to us for those skills. We turn to her for solving people's problems with ingrown nails and other issues. Our senior Vietnamese technician Pam is excellent with Solar and Acrylics, as well as having many other related skills. Our second Vietnamese technician and aesthetician is also very good with acrylics and Solar. She also does eyebrow and minor waxing and has a wax station next to her nails station for customers convenience. Many people give feedback of excellence on her eyebrow work. I recommend Pam for design but Tina does a fine job as well. She sent a family off to Orlando this past week for the Little League World Series with neat looking baseballs on their toes. All three of these techs came to us with high praise and recognition. The Vietnamese girls have been with us for more than a year now, and we plan to have them for much longer. Marcia speaks great English and Pam speaks very good English.

Our prices are quite reasonable. We completed a price comparison with all places in The Woodlands and surrounding salons before we opened. We opted to keep our overhead down so that we could deliver excellent service for a reasonable rate. There we are found 4 miles south of The Woodlands and not in The Woodlands, but right on the fringe of the southern part. Our salon is about 10 minutes from HEB.

Josefa my wife is the focal point of the salon. She has worked quite a few years in this business and is very savvy on beauty and health related issues. She is from Venezuela and speaks English quite well. In her four years here, she has already built a very healthy clientele for massage, facials and depilation (wax). Although she prefers women, she will do massage for men if she knows them or their wives. She also does depilation for men and has prepared men in this general area for deep-sea dives. Many customers have given her high praise for her work. There are several testimonials for all of our staff that I could share with you, but not now.

Josefa (pronounced hoe-safe-uh, emphasizing the middle syllable), my wife, is well known for her waxing. She has special tools and products that can be customized for each person. You tell her what you want and she can probably accommodate or if she does not have the right product, she will probably know what to get to suit your personal needs. She is an expert in many beauty subjects. She purposely excludes hair from her list of services and does not believe she will ever allow that to interfere with her focus. She has a great product line that costs more than the cheap stuff at the grocery store but it is a line that far exceeds the norm in quality and usefulness.

What is really exciting is Josefa's recent and new beauty services. This area of skills is her real forte. She has been doing permanent eyebrows and eyeliner for several months now. She added eyelash extensions to her list a few months ago and has been growing that business steadily. One of her beauty clients who found her is a singer who just released a new CD, but I am not privileged to say who she is.

Her most recent addition that she is beginning to offer to select clients is body shaping and weight loss. She just completed a program on one lady before they both went on vacation. The client had to purchase a new smaller bathing suit (she said a bikini) for her trip to a Caribbean island. When she got back, I noticed her clothes loose on her. She and her husband are now true believers in the process. He like I, is amazed what a couple of weeks can do for a person. The cost seemed high to him and he resisted until he saw the results. Now he has agreed to put her on a maintenance program. Now this is very exciting. You are hearing this testimony for the first time right here!

We also recently added a spa tan in addition to our one tanning bed so that clients can get their coloration they need for any event right in our store. Now, there is not much we cannot do with the exception of hair.

We are just beginning our business and have been growing at a fairly rapid pace. If you want to go to an out of the way place but close for excellent prices while we get started, you have that opportunity. I would love to meet you and already know a few folks here.

So if any of you want to check us out, our website is www.klnails.samsbiz.com. I hope to meet some of you in the near future. I do not think you will be sorry for trying our salon. Those of you who know us already, well … you know. :D

I woke up this morning with horrible shoulder and neck pain, and a pain in one foot. The foot pain has been going on for two days now -- usually getting better over the course of the day. I'm not sure why I"m waking up so stiff and sore all of a sudden, but I may pay you all a visit one morning this week. Basic manicure (no acrylics), pedicure, and maybe a chair massage? About what (just an estimate) can I expect to spend? I assume you take Mastercard?

I can attest that they are a great salon. My husband has had a massage there and I have had a pedicure there. The service was great and the place was VERY clean. I noticed several things they went out of their way in doing to assure cleanliness.

DH and I have been regular customers almost since the day their doors opened. And I don't go back to places unless I am happy! We get pedicures, manicures and massages.

We take all the cards. The girls prefer cash for tips but we also provide restaurant-like tipping on the cards. Unfortunately my wife is out of country until Saturday week. She is the only massage therapist we have. There is a price list on our website. Just click on the address above and the site will be displayed. Click on prices and scroll down a few lines. The basic mani/pedi is $32 for the combo and a massage is about $1/minute. For your first visit, we will give you a discount as well. Just tell us your forum ID when you come in and make sure I am aware when you are coming in. If you want to save time, you can arrange for the combo to be done by two techs at the same time. For your problem, I am sure my wife can help you but she just is not available right now. She leaves to see her mom and family twice a year for just a few days at a time. This time our children are there as well. Hopefully next year I will get to travel with her.

I do hope you come to see us anyway or when she gets back. You will get a free foot massage with your spa pedicure. The pedicure machine is a mechanical massage machine as well and that is included. Most people love that but we always advise pregnant women not to us it and to have Josefa give them a prenatal chair massage instead.

She had a terrible trip coming back. GOt back a day late (lucky considering the circumstances). Just shows that anything can happen with the airlines these days. I will let her tell the story.

She would have had the same fun we had, believe me! But I might of had to be more conservative. I allowed myself to be me. :D

I am glad to have her and my daughter back at home. Missed them both a lot, although I did get to have some quiet time and able to get a few things done around ths house as a result of their departure.

Tell us more. Is is a medication, herb or exercise program?

She acquired some new equipment about two months ago. One machine helps her to break up fatty tissue by suction massage. The other provides her client an in-situ exercise session. It is an array of electrical pulses that cause the subcutaneous muscles to flex and burn off the fat.

The lady who was first to be slimmed went after her thighs, buttocks and belly. You would not believe the results! I was totally flabbergasted! This lady is about 34 years old (I am really guessing) and our friend. She was beginning to shape up into a pear and wanted to getr herself looking better for vacation. :)

I saw her again after vacation a few days ago and she looks 5 years younger and has all of the right curves now. I told her she needs to get some new clothes. She came to the shop with droopy clothes, maybe two sizes smaller than she was. I asked her what to tell our clients about the process. She said it is great but they need to be prepared for some discomfort in the process. Yet the good thing is that all you do is show up and let somesone else take care of it for you, like going and getting a shot at the doctor. I asked my wife how many hours it took and she said 12. 12 sessions of one hour each.

The lady allowed me to witness part of one session on each of the machines. I asked the lady if it hurt and she said no. Part of the suction treatment is the most difficult if one has a low threshold on pain. The machine with the electrodes did an excellent job. I watched for a few seconds as her muscles twitched. Very interesting technology.

I believe the next client to do this will be doing a post natal reshaping program. She wants to start the program right away (2 weeks after having her baby). However, there are about 4-5 people now waiting in the wings, wanting to start it. One of them saw our first client at the shop last week and said "I want to do that". :) Reminded me of an old joke that I could not repeat here! LOL

I was thrilled to find a few that would dance. My hubby doesn't care to dance, so I am on my own with that one! LOL (Actually, he DID dance with me that night and that is only the second time we have danced with each other 14 years.)

Sounds very interesting RM. But I have to admit...I'm not really into the pain thing. Question for you - where does the fat go and how long does it stay gone? Meaning is this a temp thing or a permanent thing?

IndianSpringsGuy

It needs to be maintained. Without either regular exercise or maintenance afterwards, it will return. The theory is to naturally burn it off but at an accelerated rate. Fluids exit the body through the lymphatic system. The fat is converted naturally to sugars and liguid. Josefa is recommending a 2X/mo maintenance program. Every person has their own pain threshold and some people may not be able to do this. The maintenance program would likely only require the muscular contraction treatment, i.e. excersize.

Josefa was a model for this equipment at the spa convention in Miami. She did a before and after for the convention floor (right cheek vs left cheek) where over one weekend, the results were demonstrated. I do not know how many times whe went through the process over that weekend, but lines were definately removed! So she became quite convinced that her purchase of equipment was a good decision. Her friends who knew what she did in Venezuela have been pressing her to do this for 3 years, because they want the opportunity to receive the treatment.

By the way, Josefa taught several classes in applying eyelash extensions to a couple of salons while she was there. She has been planning that for months. Now she will return to teach on a larger scale soon. So she is upgrading the salon practices there while bringing her techniques here. My challenge is to get the word out by a new advertising program. It costs a lot to advertise and as you know, she remains a fairly well kept secret, although word of mouth advertising is accelerating at a rapid pace. Her focus is definately on beautification, a high priority with all ladies from that country. Her body works program emphasizes natural processes. She discourages surgery methods which are dangerous and many times not really required. She wants me to learn how to do this so that I can treat her. LOL.... I am not planning to do that. I am still trying to fully understand this and do all the back office stuff that goes with it. Such a life of retirement, eh?

I use your salon and love it. Tina does my nails and I've never had anyone do them better. Now that I am going to be in gleannloch farms instead of Auguta pines, I still plan on driving up to get my nails done at your salon.

How long does a deep tissue massage provide you relief from pain? I have the world's most tense shoulders/neck/upper back. It affects me 24/7 now and has really seemed to worsen in the last few months. I'd gladly pay 70 bucks to just feel 'loose' again, but it would depend on it makes me feel better for a few days or just while I'm getting the actual massage. I really should just probably see a doctor for this but I'm not sure what kind of doc is the right one to see.

I'm not comfortable with being popped and cracked; it's scary to me. My pain definitely feels more muscular and not spinal.

it is rather freaky when they pop you! but feels so good after however i can see how it would scare someoneone.

It really depends but might ask CG who likely has an opinion. I do not know if she has seen your question. Some clients like to come in every week, some others every two weeks for this very purpose. We have had a rash of ladies going through treatments during pregnancy lately. Josefa treats various issues. A chiropractor just recently sent us a lady suffering from cancer for discomfort treatment. She seems to be progressing well.

Hi there. Well all I can tell you is what I am experiencing. I have 2-3 pinched nerves in my spine and have been on pain meds and muscle relaxers off and on (mostly on) for a few months now. A few weeks ago (right before I was leaving for 10 day vacation), I was in most pain I had been in. My back hurt so bad, I was fearful that I would not be able to sit on the plane or even enjoy my vacation. I made appt and went to Josefa for a massage. I was immediately relieved of pain. I stayed that way for about a week - not having to take any of my meds for comfort. That was proof to me that massages do work for pain like this. So I'm going to try to go at least twice a month as I just cannot personally afford every week. If I could, I would do that - they really help me that much.

A week w/o pain and meds sounds like heaven! Copays on doc visits and prescriptions can be just as costly and I hate the side effects of pain medicine. I've only tried Trammadol and Vicodin but they both made me nauseated, feeling 'agitated' and for some reason have my nose itching constantly. Moreso with the vicodin than the trammadol, but trammadol definitely made me feel just as ill.
