I have been working out every single day with moderate weights and doing calisthenics. I do 30-45 mins of cardio first and then the strength training. I am NOT working out to lose weight, I want to sculpt and gain muscle. I'm 118 and my goal is to convert enough body fat into muscle so that I way about 125 because I'm considered slightly under weight. Anyway....6 weeks later of this 5 day a week routine for about an hour and a half a day and I'm seeing no difference. Still weigh the same, too. I eat 6 times a day and lots of protein. If there is anyone on here that knows a lot about training, what am I doing wrong??? 6 weeks should have produced some difference, right? Should I not be doing the cardio first? Should I try supplements? I don't want to look like a man! I just want a tighter body. A butt would be nice, too! As of now I just have a crack in my back and the gazillions of squats and lunges only seem to be making my thighs look thicker, no butt. :p I'm getting discouraged!

Protein can actually cause you to lose wait because of the way protein digest. Try getting some weight gain at GNC. Understand that due to the fact that you have no cahones, your a little short on testosterone.
In your strength training, try to use heavier weight for muscle gain. Lots of reps will give you tone, but not size.
Try starting your sets with light weight, increasing to max, and then decreasing till failure. Take a minute to minute and half breaks between sets, and don't over train. The more you workout, the higher your metabolic rate. You can consume muscle as well as fat in your burn.
If you have been at 6 weeks, you are just now reaching your turning point. Try cardio one day, weight training the next day. Take time off to allow your body to recover.

I miss the part about your butt. squats, squats, squats. 90 degrees, kness never past your toes. When you go down, play like your going to sit in a chair.

I successfully gained weight when I was a teen using weights, but no cardio. I worked out 3 times a week, increasing the weight 2.5 lbs per week. I used protein mixed in milk with one raw egg. I gained about 17 pounds and got to a point where I did not gain any more, just strength. Now since I am emphasizing cardio, I work with wieghts also, but concentrate on carbs to supply the needed energy for burning the high cals involved. As an old man, I am fortunate that I do not have to worry about overweight. I have lost 15 pounds in cardio workouts. I am running 100 miles a month now. Yet the weights will build. Give your muscles time to build. I do not recommend daily workouts. Not sure if anyone out there does. May depend on age. I sure did nto do that when I worked on building muscle as a teenager. I was told that alternating days offered growth time for the muscles, while workout days spent the energy in the gym.

(oops just saw a bad typo - 17 pounds not 176. That would be a monster).

you might want to have a day of rest between work outs. your muscles need time to heal. Try working out every other day.

I wish i had a problem gaining weight, i think i might just hate you lol

It may just be your body. I can't build muscle no matter what I do. Some people are just long and lean. Try pilates instead of cardio, it defines more than builds. Keep up the good work! You've got me hooked on fit tv!

I was afraid I might hear that from some! lol. Believe me, it isn't fun for me because my SO regularly ridicules me by calling me 'rail' or 'waif' and he accuses me of never eating to be skinny just because I am a woman. (he sees me eat all the time so that frustrates me) I'd rather have some curves if it were my choice.

You've got me hooked on fit tv! Thanks :) My favorite guy is Gilad and his two shows, 'Bodies in Motion' and 'Body Sculpt'.

And Guys: Thanks for the elaborate tips. I also really didn't realize it was important to alternate days. I was afraid if I didn't do it for a day I would backslide. I may just need to utilize a trainer at the gym after all.....
