The problem is growing. With TAMU-resistent strains, the flu is becoming worse this year and the vaccines are less effective as the season continues. This will lead to a different mix next year to combat the flu, but in the meantime wash hands frequently and take precautions where people touch things and in confined places. I found myself walking around people coughing last night at the mall and got as far away as possible and as quickly as I could.

It's amazing that when I was a kid we didn't have problems like we have today. We also didn't mind playing in the dirt or swimming in the creek. I guess because of that our bodies formed antibodies. Doctors didn't pass out antibiotics like they were candy.

My family, those that didn't smoke like chimneys have all lived to be near a 100. My mom is 97.

That's kind of scary to hear.
I always wash my hands and I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse.
I've also been drinking Emergen-C everyday. I've been trying so hard to not get sick. I've never had the flu vaccine ever. I just don't believe they work that well.

I've been mega-dosing myself and the kids with Vit C and the routine hand-washing and all's well. It's amazing how well we get along, considering.

We have had the flu vaccine every year. If we have had the flu we didn't know it because we never got very sick. I know there are strains not covered under the vaccines every year, but we have never had a problem. If you are in an environment with kids you are bound to get it sometime or another. My kids haven't had it and neither have I but I have a lot of students who have, they all say they didn't get the flu shot.

I haven't had the flu in a few years, but I'm real health conscious person now. Right now, the only kid I come in contact with now is my 2 month old. I just HATE the flu. Last time I remember having it I felt like I was dying and I seriously couldn't stand having to stay in bed.

We're in school, so are exposed to all sorts of nasty germs. I got the flu (type A, via letter from the health dept) 2 years ago, along with Bronchitis or Pneumonia, I can't remember which. I really thought I was going to die.

Still won't get a flu shot, though. I can respect why people do, it's just not for me or my kids at this time.

I had the flu during the epidemic of the 60's and that made me really respect the disease! I lost two weeks of college and thought I would never be able to eat again in my life. I was throwing it up even if it was only water and ached lke I had just run the 26 mile marathon or more. It was a month before I was back to normal and even then way under weight. I hope I never experience that again. I had to drop two classes and barely pulled out the others that semester. But it changed my life forever .. another story.

ISG only talks about body aches and vomiting.

That sounds like the flu. Those symptoms aren't associated with having a cold.

Sounds to me like gastroenteritis.

Influenza usually starts suddenly and may include the following symptoms:

Fever (usually high)
Headache
Tiredness (can be extreme)
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Body aches
Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults)Having these symptoms does not always mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the common cold, can have similar symptoms.

These are possible symptoms. Usually if you have fever you have body aches. You don't have to have all these symptoms to have the flu. The kids I know who have had the flu (yes diagnosed by a doctor) have had vomiting and they have had body aches.

Sounds like he had the flu to me.

It was the Asian Flu, a precursor to the Hong Kong flu which was an avian flu. I had almost all of those symptoms but the one I remember the most was the vomiting because it would not stop. Fever and the inability to get nourishment caused most of the weakness. I suppose dehydration was there too but I do not remember the doctor saying anything about that. Mostly, people did not want anyone with the flu in the doctors office. Well, the doctor came to the house and said I had the Asian flu. People died of it but I do not recall the number of poeple.

Later came the Hong Kong flu which was the same but mutated version.

H3N2 - Hong Kong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_kong_flu)

My bout with it was between the two documented very bad years.

You don't even have to have all those symptoms to be diagnosed with the flu, everyone reacts differently to viruses.
