I need some help with hors d'oeuvres. Ds is getting married and I've got several appointments next week in and around Austin meeting with caterers. There will be no sit down dinner (can we say mucho dinero!). So instead we are going to have heavy hors 'doeuvres. Suggestions please! Thanks

I love hors d'oeuvre parties!!! Simple crackers, cheese, & fruit, for starters. Shrimp on mini-skewers would make filling finger food. I'd try for a theme - greek, texan, mex, contemporary, etc., that would go with the wedding style. Letsee, also aspargus maybe? Artichokes? Yellow squash & zucchini? French bread with toppings like shrimp, or a spread?

Cream puffs. Lots of cream puffs. We also had hors d'oeuvre vs a sit down dinner at our wedding, and the only food other than our wedding cake I can remember eating are the yummy oh so yummy cream puffs. Great now I am craving cream puffs. :D

Here's where I admit why I weigh so much... they sell those little Belgian creme puffs in the frozen section at the grocery store. Let them thaw, dump them in a pretty bowl and lightly dust with confectioner's sugar. They're to die for!

Marinated mushrooms. I don't have the recipe, but they are yummy!

Also, there is a simple recipe for those little sausages (can't think of the name of them right now, "Little Sizzlers" maybe?) cooked in a crockpot with BBQ sauce and grape jelly. Sounds strange, I know, but they are a huge hit at parties!

Cheese. Lots and lots of cheese!

Triscuit has come out with a lot of different flavors of crackers. Rosemary and Olive Oil has always been a favorite of mine, but they also have a sundried tomato flavor cracker. Oh, my, I can sit down and eat a box of those in one sitting!

Shrimp Cocktail, some seafood dip, a veggie platter and a fruit platter. A chocolate fountain. Heck, I could live off of appetizers! Who needs a meal?
