Click on the pink button to help provide mammograms for women who can't afford them. You can click once a day every day.
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=2
According to Snopes, it takes 45,000 clicks to fund one mammogram, so your "click" contributes to, but does not provide, 1.3 mammograms a day on average.

There are also tabs to click to help provide health care for children, feed the hungry and provide food and care for rescue animals.

Cool, thanks for posting. I'm sure we can all spare some clicks!
I don't have my own money to spread around but like to help any way that I *can*. I used to do free cleaning for a group home of people living with AIDS (I don't live in that state anymore) and each summer I cut off enough hair to send into that Pantene program that collects real hair for wigs. I always feel good about things like that and it doesn't cost money.
When I do it this year I will post the info for anyone else that might be considering a good whacking of the hair for the hot weather to come! If you can stand to lose 6-10 inches and don't over-process the heck out of your hair, they will take it! They send you a kit for collecting it and it's free to send to them.

Do they take kids' hair too? My 4-year-old's hair grows fast. Right now it's almost down to her waist. We were going to get it cut this weekend, but if the Pantene program takes kids' hair, we might let it grow a little more first.

Another way we like to help is by donating some of the food we buy using the Grocery Game. We get such a good deal on things like cereal, pasta and canned foods that we buy them even when we don't need them sometimes with the intention of donating to a food bank. We can donate a lot more since we get it at such a good price (even free sometimes).

I think they prefer kids hair for wigs for kids. You can look into Locks of Love. Some places will give you a free haircut if you donate the hair.

I'm hesitant to donate to Locks of Love after reading this:
* Locks of Love receives more hair than they actually use to make wigs for cancer patients.
* Locks of Love SELLS the surplus hair for CASH! How much are they selling the hair for? In 2005, they sold $352,401 of hair!
Most of the hair donated does not end up on a child's head. It ends up being sold to commercial wigmakers.

and...
Surprisingly enough, some chemotherapy patients are excluded from the top – priority considerations of the Locks of Love organization. This is only because a chemotherapy patient’s hair loss is not considered a permanent condition. The donor, (or rather, his or her parent or guardian) must provide proof that he or she has financial needs. Two letters of recommendation are required, as well as a photo and an essay.

Hmmmm...I am not sure whether Pantene is affiliated with Locks of Love or not. I don't *think* it is. Their campaign is called Beautiful Lengths. I was just reading up on the requirements for hair and to me it seems that kids' hair would be perfect! They really prefer you not have permanently colored or chemically treated hair. It explains why and there are other guidelines here: http://www.beautifullengths.com/en_US/requirements.jsp

Oh, I'm sure Pantene is *not* affiliated with Locks of Love. I meant that I would rather donate to Pantene than Locks of Love.
I did email someone at the Beautiful Lengths program to see if they accept kids' hair. I'll let you know what they say.

That is what we do as well. There are so many things you end up getting for free. For us, we only buy one particular brand of cat and dog food, so anything that GG offers free or very cheap, we donate to the animal shelter on 242. Anything else we get, we donate to the women's shelter.

It is a charity non-profit organization and it needs to fund itself somehow. I'm sure we would find something to disagree with about the way most non-profits run their charity. The way I understand it they aren't selling the hair for profit, it's used to fund the organization. It is good to know that before you choose to donate.

If they lead people to believe that their hair is going to be used to make wigs for kids, and don't tell people that their hair might be sold to fund the program, THAT is where I would have a problem with them.

MMM, I just got an email from Pantene. They *do* take hair from all ages!
The day after we were talking about donating my daughter's hair she cut her own hair! It was just on one side near the front, so there is still plenty to donate, luckily. I just can't believe her timing!
