View Full Version : May I complain?

Husband complained tonight that I'm cooking too much stuff "out of bags and boxes." I admit that I found a box of cooked and frozen black eyed peas that looked good, so I bought them and told him we'd have peas and cornbread for supper tonight. But, he said I'm doing this almost every meal.
You know what he is talking about? Frozen vegetables! I admit fresh tastes best, but frozen is healthy, and I still have to cook the silly things. If I stock up on too much fresh produce, some of it will go bad before I get around to cooking it, so I try to buy frozen to have on hand. But, since he sees me pouring it out of a bag, he thinks it's convenience food.
I'm thinking about not making the cornbread!

I use a fair share of frozen veggies for the same reason. It's much easier to keep them on hand and not worry about having to use them up quickly. My dh learned the hard way that if he was going to so much as make a face at what I cooked, he could do the cooking himself. He doesn't complain so much anymore. *Bop* to your dh!

Ha, ha! His idea of cooking is to pick up the phone and have a pizza delivered.
Talk about cooking out of boxes!

Ugh! I must admit, I like it when my dh cooks - he's got a natural talent for it.

I am very fortunate (and grateful) that my husband does most of the cooking and is very good at it. I actually love to cook, but we fell into these roles early on in our marriage. Because he works 24 hour shifts, he is home all day when he is off. We we first got married, I worked full time, so he started cooking every day he was off and dinner would be ready when I got home.
I used to do all of the grocery shopping, but over time he felt like he should do it since he cooked, so now I don't even do the grocery shopping. I have been cooking more and more lately just because I MISS it.
What's funny is that when I cook, the kids rave about it and it is something silly like chicken & dumplings. They just aren't used to me cooking. Makes me feel like a dingdong mom not to cook, but dh LOVES it and who am I to take away what he loves doing? LOL

I can cook but, ugh, I don't like to. I don't like to grocery shop either but I guess if I've got to cook I have to do that too. My husband doesn't like to eat out much so I cook almost every night. He doesn't even know how to boil water. I asked once to go boil some water and he turned the heat to "low".

Not me -- I don't whine at all. The husband that thinks frozen veggies is "cooking out of a box" is the whiner.
I'm cooking frozen fish tonight. (Yes, I do have to cook it!) But, it came out of a bag, out of the freezer. If he says one word about that, I'm handing him a fishing pole and an electric knife to do the fileting himself. I might let him cook it, too! LOL!

I don't whine to him. I cook with a smile but I don't enjoy cooking like some people do. I can cook pretty good, not from any talent but because I've been doing it since I was twelve years old and I can read recipes.:)

Hello all! New to this site:) My wife and I have reversed roles. She works full time and I am a stay at home dad/student. I do most of the cooking here and most of the time enjoy it. The only frozen items that I use are the meats I keep in the freezer. Fresh is the best. Besides, my wife is very picky and will not eat frozen veggies:eek:

I generally like frozen vegetables but I don't like canned vegetable. When we had a garden I would freeze lots of vegetables but would never can them. I don't like that when vegetables are canned commercially that they've sat in aluminum cans for awhile.

Welcome Yankee! My husband is the primary cook in our family as well.
(And he would have stayed home with the kids if I was able to make enough to support us. He loved being home with them when they were little. That has changed now that they fight all the time though. We both go to work for PEACE and QUIET!) LOL

We used to eat nothing but canned veggies here, but my DD has discovered the joys of fresh veggies and will eat nothing else. It's better for us, I know, but sometimes can be a pain.
She's not tricked by frozen veggies either, even if I cook them the same way I would the fresh.

I like my veggies crisp and it's impossible to cook them and retain that crispness when they've soaked in juices. I'd prefer all my veggies fresh & steamed... yum!
But I'll take them from a can also... it's just a preference ;).
