My youngest son developed a rash on his chest and tummy, no fever or anything. Took him in to be sure he wasn't contagious and find out what it could be. It is strep throat! I never new that a rash was part of it. Doc put him on an antibiotic. Thankfully, he is not in too bad of a mood.

Poor little guy! I never would have guessed that a rash on the chest or stomach could be a symptom of strep throat. It was smart of you to get it checked out right away, and he should be feeling better now that he's on an antibiotic.

Thanks mx5. He called it(the rash) scarlettini or something like that.

Get ready to get it yourself. Ugh. :(

I would have guessed Scarlet Fever. I hope he's feeling better with the antibiotic now.

I agree that was very smart (and responsible) of you to get it checked out. I would have guessed it was S.F. too and that would have me making an appointment ASAP.
I don't think you will automatically get it, though. I mean the odds are against you but just take precautions and you might end up safe. ;)

I hope none of us gets it, but I must say that I have a tendency to get it more than my kids!! Doc said he can go to school tomorrow and my oldest says he is fine. Fingers crossed!! I feel fine and am going to lunch on Thursday, unless you all tell me to stay away!!:D

I had strep throat my first year of teaching. Was one of the worst things I had ever experienced. Partially because I didn't head to the doctor right away. Then I had a bad reaction to the meds, and passed out cold in front of one of my classes. I felt myself start to black out, and told all of them to find a desk and not move, and sent one for the teacher next door. Scared the poor babies; but they were very well-behaved for the rest of the year.

I had the strep/scarlet fever combo in college. I was out for over a week, but noone caught it from me. It was awful, I itched soooo bad and could barely eat cause my throat hurt so bad. I hope your little one has a speedy recovery!

Wow, Really?? I am very surprised the doc cleared him to go to school. Maybe I need to go back and read about Strep (never had it or dealt with it) because *I* thought that was one of those things that keep you highly contagious for up to two weeks, with or without symptoms. I must be completely wrong; I couldn't imagine a doc giving the okay to go around school with something so contagious!
Unless he needs the extra business! :p J/K

I was suprised that he cleared him as well. I guess once they have antibiotic in them for a day, they are okay. He doesn't have a fever either. Not even yesterday.

Ugh... I went to bed last night with a scratchy cough and a sore throat. Took 2000mg of Vit C and some Tussinix (sorry, can't spell it). Overslept, rushed the kids off to school, came home and realized my throat is very sore and I have a headache. This is nothing more than sinus drainage, right?????? I'm taking more Vit C and going back to bed. :banghead:

I think strep is only contageous w/ a fever. I have heard that the rash is a reaction to tonxins strep causes in the body.

That makes sense. It seems strange that someone could have an infection without a fever, though. Momoftwo is a lot more "on the ball" than I would have been. I would have figured that since there was no fever, it was probably just contact dermatitis and would have waited a day or two to see if the skin cleared up on its own.

My dh says I am paranoid. My oldest used to get bad sinus/ear infections and only on rare occasions would he have fever. Usually his behavior is what clued me into a problem. I just knew the rash wasn't normal and did not want to send him to school contagious. BTW: picked him up today and he was fine.

Good for you! ALWAYS trust your instincts. I had a "feeling" about not giving my 5-year-old peanut butter, and after we had him tested for allergies we found out that he is highly allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. He could have had an anaphylactic reaction. I'm glad to hear your little guy is doing so well! :)

A streptococcal infection of the throat (strep throat) is a common guttate psoriasis trigger. Strep throat can be present without symptoms and can still cause a flare of guttate psoriasis.
