I'm ready to just go ahead and see if a doc can help me with the chronic pain in my wrists. I'm thinking a gen.prac would be a waste of time; they'd probably just refer me to someone, right? I have PPO so I can choose a specialist on my own but not sure which kind. Anyone have a suggestion on where to get started?

Your family doc might be able to point you to the right kind of specialist, and recommend one they know to be good.

Try Dr. Coupe at Fondren Orthopedic Group. I have been to him for ankle and knee issues. He is really nice and very easy to deal with. Here is the number if you are interested: 281-362-7700.

Thanks! I don't like to have any more appointments to go to then necessary; that's why I didn't want to see my gen.prac just for that question!

I know what you mean. Not to mention all the copays. I went to him directly and am glad for it. My son had to go to him after he broke his foot. That is how I found him. Pm me if you ever need a ride. I am usually around.

Thanks, that is kind of you to offer! ;) Luckily my SO has it pretty good at work with being able to leave early a lot. He carpools with the VP, who almost never works later than 2! Must be nice....my day doesn't ever end!

Don't be surprised if the clinics ask that you be referred by your GP even if your ins. doesn't require it. The two specialty clinics I've worked in did, in order to weed out the ones who really didn't did the kind of help our clinic offered. Some specialty docs want an initial diagnosis from your GP. Some would rather not. -Just a heads up. Hope you get some relief!

To be honest, I don't even *have* a GP! :o I HATE going to the doctor for myself and avoid it as much as possible. Not to mention all the appointments my kids always have. I've been preggers so much and with all of those appointments you have to go to with each pregnancy, I feel I've had enough appointments to last a life time. I haven't even gotten myself an OBGYN yet (since moving here) and I know I need to, A. To do something to prevent another pregnancy and B. because I know a woman is supposed to be checked out yearly. I haven't been since 6 weeks after my last baby was born and he's turning 2 this summer. :bag: Maybe 'telling on myself' like this will push me into going ahead and taking care of that. Same with the ortho. doc recommended in this thread, too!
***I do believe that Mom of 2 said she went straight to this doc w/o a referral but thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure and ask whoever I speak with about the appointment before making it.

I really like the practice in Panther Creek, Village Med Center. I think most of the docs there will do a female exam so you could get that done and have your hand looked at, at the same time. Then you only have to go in for one appt. I really like Dr Yut. I also really like the nurse practitioner.

I see Dr. Michael Marlow at Alden Health center. He's great. He reminds me of the Dr. I worked for in Arkansas. The jury is still out on his staff, though, they are a little slow to get back to you if you have a question, but I like him so much! However, I wouldn't want him looking at my umm, nether regions. I see OB/GYN Dr. Laden's NP Sue Cote. She's great (and fast)! Has anyone ever seen Dr. Shah-Dematologist? I have my first apt. w/ her in July for a skin cancer exam. I know what you mean, msmichellemiller. I hate going to the Dr. too. I avoid it if at all possible! Kind of funny, since I am trying to get a nursing degree, huh? But it helps to have one you like who you see.

I don't like Dr. Marlow - he used to be my doctor, but I got irritated he kept dismissing some concerns that I had - my neighbor had the same thing happen. No biggie - I know he's still in practice there (I see the PA under dire emergencies :p) so obviously there's quite a few people that still like him :)
I've been using (hah! I haven't been in 5 years :p) Nativity on Oak Ridge Drive for my "well-woman" care. I love Carol Martin - I'm not sure she's still with them, I think she might have gone back to her own business, but I'm not real sure. Like I said, my last appt was 5 years ago :rolleyes1:.

Yikes. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience w/ Dr. Marlow. So far, I've really liked him, but thanks for the heads up.
