Just wondering about the internet services in the area. Does anyone know what the actual download & upload speeds are?

I know there is comcast, is there any others for high speed?

I use AT&T DSL for $19.99/mo. and other than the four days it was out, (just my house because of an error the guy made when they upgraded our lines), the service has been great.

Here is the info I cut/pasted from their website.

IP Address: 1 Dynamic
Downstream Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 384 Kbps

We previously used Charter Cable and HATED it. It was down more than it was up. And $50+ a month.

Edited to add you can pay a little more for faster speeds on AT&T.

Not sure about where your house will be, but a lot of Alden Bridge cannot get AT & T.

Dang... not looking good for me. :/ I am used to 9000kb/s down and 700 kb/s up.

I am seriously considering AT&Ts new cable offering. It will be TV and internet packaged together. In October they will add telephone, or so they said. The technology brings the signal to the home via optic cable. We all have seen them installing the cables in the area over the past two two years. From the optic cable, the signal goes to copper wire into the telephone system like DSL and filters on the telephones keep that chatter from messing up telepohne devices in the house. We will start by putting in 1 DVR, 1 HD, and 3 recieving units. We will start with deluxe and backoff if we do not need some of they things, like fewer channels. Installation of equipment will be free and all the units will be included in the monthly price. The comuters will be configured by them, saving me some work. Direct TV is a little richer in content, esp with spanish channels but I believe we will have plenty of content for our family. Lots of sports and movie channels in both languages. I have not yet resolved how we will replace our telephone and security system but want to package those with this. I would like to have a callout frpom the security system that does not require a telephone service. This will replace my AT&T DSL and internet service.

I'm pretty sure that this is the service my dad looked into recently. But I thought the reason he lost interest was because they were going to have to bring the FO into the house and could not use the existing lines? I'll check with him soon... they're on a plane today.

ATT Uverse. I checked into it, they told us they could use the existing cable. We have our house wired for the DSL, we wired it ourselves. There is some existing cable from cable TV but not much in here, we also have Directv, which we wired ourselves years ago. I thought about it because then I could drop my home phone, but I talked to some people who had it and they have issues with connectivity and having to reboot the system on a daily basis. They told me also installation is free, but what if they can't use the existing wires? Then they couldn't tell me if the installation was still free. So we decided to stay with the DSL for now. The Uverse sounds great, but the only people I know that actually have it are having issues with it I will wait till they work the kinks out.

I am listening and waiting to hear about any other experiences. Uverse sounds great but it is new and the bugs are expected to be there. I will do some more research today. Not ready to make a decision yet. Getting in on something good early is good but it can have its downside. My DSL has not been performing very well of late so I am ready to try something new. AT&T told me that I would get equivalent internet speed performance from this new system but have a couple of speed upgrade options for the future should I choose to change to Uverse. Apparently the channel selection process is much better than Comcast, working much faster, more like satellite than cable. The three screen option lets you monitor two channels while watching another and can switch, so one does not need a TV with that option if one wants the option. I would use it to catch the weather sometimes, altough the system has a new feature coming that will give you weather updates for your location (using a feed from some source unrevealed). I see similar expansions in the future. Computer and TV technology are converging. I believe they will or do have a photo viewing for TV from the internet as well.
