Wentworth said the campaign Lexus is in keeping with the kind of cars he drives in his personal life. He said it is necessary for driving the dangerous stretch of Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Austin.
"It's a matter of safety," Wentworth said.
He was far from being the only lawmaker using a luxury vehicle as his campaign car.

HAHAHAHA. I can't believe he actually used that as his excuse.

Not counting Craddick, the top-spending lawmaker was Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas, whose $200,119 in the debit ledger included a $61,929 reimbursement to his own company for use of a corporate jet.

A lot of that I don't have a problem with... but the obvious extravagances? - season tickets to sporting events, their hotel choices, the use of a corporate jet for a legislator??, etc. But I can find a lot of ways to better spend that money and don't believe I'll ever write a political-support check ever again.

Some things like season tickets actually do play a role in politics. Unfortunately the whole thing runs on "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours". People in Congress understand this very well, state and national level.

It's that way on ever level of politics and most levels of business. Along with the "Good Ol' Boy" system.

When I was younger, I always wondered how a politician could become a millionaire on their salary. Now I know.
