My oldest son wants to play tennis this year. He has never played, so I doubt he could make the team. (Junior High). Does anyone know of someone who will give him a few lessons to at least get him started?

Ohhhh, tennis! Check with the rec center, or call the local high schools and ask the coaches there if they have any players that would make good private instructors, or if the players have used and would recommend private instructors.
I played tennis... too out of shape now, of course . I had a ball machine when I was a kid (I was actually pretty good at it and my parents both played so we had a lot of equipment) and a private coach, but I have no idea how my mom found him. I went to John Newcombe's camp (New Braunsfels) for a few summers, which was awesome. I told my silver-spooned dh that once and he told me he went to tennis camp as well... in Switzerland

I took private lessons in Sacramento one summer, then played on the high school tennis team. But, I am not the kind of person who can teach someone else. Especially my own kid. I just don't have the patience. And, heck it has been a few years (like 20!) since I played competitively. I played soccer for 14 years very competitively, but I could barely teach a three year old to play now!
