Just got the wonderful news from the high school that a soccer ball smashed our truck's windshield. :aargh4: Any recommendations for replacement places? Not sure if I'm going to use our insurance... our deductible is $500.

They were recommended by our agent (State Farm) a couple of years ago. We used them for 3 different windshields. AND, they will go to your house, office, wherever and install. Do not know if Ben is still with them, tho.

Anyone but millstead IMO, a truck windshield shouldn't be too terribly expensive...$150 or so the last time a softball went through mine. Now the back glass on a 2002 Dodge Quad Cab was $550.00. I asked why so much, their reply, they don't break as often. Note to self stop 4 wheeler before winch mount hits the glass...better note to self "Thats what ya get for being too damn cheap to spend $350.00 on a trailer. Out $550.00 and still didn't have a trailer. I did buy one soon after.:)

One thing to be cautious of is glass from Mexico. Ask where their glass comes from.

Don't PM! I want to know as well - I've used them to replace a couple of house windows.

Just from a past experience, IMO they were not the most honest folks I have delt with. Things may be different now. It's been some time ago. But one bad experience usually turns me off for good.

Side Note?

If anyone ever needs radiator work I can recommend Thomas Radiator in Conroe. I had a drain valve go bad last week and I had no clue how to replace it so I went in and they replaced it in about 15 minutes and refused any payment. The part probably cost them pennies but the gesture was worth so much more.

I think that's the case for most anyone!

Are you sure your deductible is $500? I have had several replaced and the total for the windshield has been $250 and my deductible for glass is $50. I am getting ready to have one replaced in hubby's car. I just need to coordinate with the insurance.

Yeah my deductible is right. I raised it when the teen started driving. Fortunately windshields aren't that expensive and it had a couple little cracks in it already...so I guess it was due.

I don't know which Millstead I called, but I've had them out here to replace (home) windows on 2 seperate occasions - the prices seemed fair and the repairs were uneventful (good thing!) both times. :dunno:

I know you mentioned that you raised your deductible, but like TXRose said, you might want to check again. Most companies have a separate deductible for glass - it's not the same as your "regular" deductible. We have State Farm and as far as I recall we had little to no deductible when we had to replace our windshield. It won't hurt to call and find out for sure!

My collision is seperate from glass it's $250 deductible and under Allstate my glass replacement falls under the "Other than Collision" which covers uninsured motorist and theft also.

That's my deductible for "other than collision". AAA doesn't have a separate glass deductible.

Is CISD paying for the windshield? If Jr damaged school property, YOU'D be paying!!

Ha ha that was the second thing out of the AP's mouth. "They are not responsible. It's the chance we take parking there." The biggest hassle is now having to get all replacement stickers.

DS wants to find the kid who did it and give him kudos. That was one heck of a kick over the goal post and at least 30 feet away to the truck.

I've always used Binswanger glass company for any glass repairs. I believe they use OEM glass for vehicles. I remember being pleasantly surprised by their prices.

They are on 1960, right? When we first moved here, someone praised them for house window replacement and I couldn't for the life of me locate "Ben Swanger" in the phone book!

Could be. They have a LOT of locations; I've used in in Houston and in Austin.

We have used Binswanger twice for windshields and were happy with them. My dad is a retires SF agent and that's who he always recommended.

ETA: Yes, they do have a location on 1960, a few miles west of 45 - near the Denny's if you know where that is. I assume that location is still there!

I have heard (and have my own) horror stories about Milstead. It all depends on who does it, but overall I have been told they are crooks. My DH would shoot me if I let them do anything again.

We got in a wreck on 1488 several years ago. We had to have the vehicle towed about 2 miles to a shop, and they charged our insurance over $250. It was eventually totaled, but I was glad we had the insurance. My dad is an agent, and he was not too surprised - he has seen their enormous charges before.

Had a similar incident, called Clarks, spoke to James, I think he is the owner. He came to the house, replaced the window, $100. We had just gotten new stickers for the car a few days before and he was able to take them off the window and transfer them to the new window, so that we did not have to replace them as well. His number is 281-932-4387
