I am too lazy to find the old post, but I went today and had a good once over. I was relieved to find that nothing was out of place or weird looking! Now, the job of getting my dh to go!!!!! I know he needs it more than I do, but he is hard to get to a doc on a good day! I have been tanning forever and I thought for sure something would be amiss, but luckily that was not the case. Any tips on getting the dear dh to a doc???:)

I had a spot on my chest that I didn't think too much about, but my GP wanted me to have it checked. I almost blew it off but I went to the dermatologist. They dug it out and tested it, it was Melanoma. Fortunately they got it all. I was lucky, but I have no problem going to the dermatologist now. Tell him to go see Amy Farmer at Sadler, she's a Fox.

Do you have to get nekkid??? Do they look *everywhere*? :o
I'm already frettin' about a first gyno visit in 2 years...I HATE letting people 'up in there'! Can't they just take my word that it's all good and I'm fine so I can get my stupid BC?
Speaking of BC, has anyone ever tried that Yaz? Supposedly the magic BC pills that are good for your skin, make the curse shorter and I believe it's also the one that is supposed to help with PMS (aka Bitchy) symptoms?

You don't have to get naked and you have a gown. The doc looked from head to toe. Even my scalp! Not anything to stress over. Pretty tame compared to the whole well womens visit!

Bribing always works for me. :D

I have had melanoma as well and need to get back to the dermatologist for another check.

Get to that well woman check, MMM!!!! Those are VERY important. I have a friend on YAZ and she loves it. She already had clear skin though.

I'm very moley and I have to go. MMM, the times I've gone, I've had to get butt naked and roll around on the table like I was Madonna in "Like A Virgin". But, it was fine. It's embarassing, but they're docs-they've seen it all! (trust me. They have). I'm getting ready for my first derm apt here and I got in easily at the Sadler Clinic in Conroe, only after trying to make an apt in TW, four mos. in advance, to have the dr's office call to reschedule for another 2 months away. I was like forget this. About Yaz, most people LOVE it. However, it had the complete opposite effect on me. I was a RAGING B****. Seriously. I felt like I was going to have to be locked up. So, heads up. Not everyone has a good experience on it.

mmm - I personally know a woman who didn't have herself checked out for five years after her daughter was born. Turns out she had cancer. She's fine now, but things were tough for awhile. Would have been easier if they had caught it sooner.

I got down to bra and panties, but she did move things to get a good look. I did have to roll too, but I somehow doubt it was as graceful as Madonna!! That was the hardest part!!

:meh: rolling around nekkid, eh? :nah:

My SO made a Gyno appointment FOR me after tiring of my excuses (going to see Westmoreland the first of August--she was pretty booked) so yall don't have to get on me anymore about that one. ;)
I *did* tan like the sun was going out of style in my early twenties while living in FL and at the beach practically everyday...so I do worry about consequences from that but it's going to take finding a strange new mole or something on me to go to that Derm. (I don't have anything like that on me right now)
Howdy: that's what I worry about with the Yaz. It seems my hormones can go outta whack much easier than the average gal. (ask my SO!) I believe it has to do with all the pregnancies throughout my twenties and being so close together. (4 in 7 years, only two were born but NO abortions and that's all I wanna go into it--just didn't want to confuse any folks that know my personal details) So yeah, I'd be weary of an opposite effect on me.
There was a BC pill out there that said it could alleviate PMDD. (that's like SuperHolyCrapYouAreABitch-PMS) I thought it was Yaz but am now thinking it's another one. Anyone know?
Maybe I should just go with my original intent with getting a procedure...I only changed my mind about it because at least with the pills I can get those on the same appointment. A procedure would require me to come BACK! I don't wanna!

Guys DO NOT put off those Gyno appointments. I go every year even though I am never going to have anymore children. By now you guys have all heard of HPV. I now know I have the HPV virus. But before they new as much about HPV as they do now I went for my yearly check up (13 months apart). My pap came back abnormal, they gave me a yucky antibotic cream, then I went back 6 weeks later, my pap was abnormal, moderate dysplasia. They did a LEEP where they go in and cut out the affected area and the biopsy came back SEVERE displysia, in 6 months I would have had full blown cervical cancer. All this happend in a matter of 3 months. That was back in 1995, now in 2008 they can actually test for HPV when you get your pap smear, mine this summer came back and said HPV was present, which means I will have to go back in 3 months and see if my body is taking care of it or we will need to go further. I don't mean to scare anyone but it really scares me when I hear that women are not going for their yearly exams. Now days they can see if HPV is active and monitor you, it's better than it was in 1995.

Okay, so I went to the Derm. yesterday. My apt. was at the Sadler Clinic in Conroe and I really liked the Dr. His name is Dr. Perri. He is new, so it was easy to get in. He was very thourough and nice. What I liked most about him was the fact that he did not push any procedures on me. I asked him about preventative care for wrinkles and such. He gave me some advice, but didn't push Botox, chemical peels or any of that other costly stuff. He gave me one rx. I would highly recommend him. I had always been told that I needed to come in once a year for skin checks. He told me that at my age, I have pretty much gotten all of the moles I'm gonna get (thank goodness), and that unless I notice any changes he could see me on an as needed basis. -as long as I was doing monthly self checks and knew what to look for. BTW to those of you who are wondering, the age limit for new moles is usually 35.
