You might make more friends if you introduce yourself and show an interest before throwing out the sales pitch. Maybe save it for your second post.

I knew a woman who started selling Mary Kay. Cost her a bunch of friends. People get tired of the sales pitch, but if you're not constantly selling, you're an outcast amongst the Mary Kay Ladies.
MLMs are the Cult of Free Enterprise. Lots of promises to the members, rarely delivered. Best of luck to you.

Well...it only costs you friends if you abuse that friendship....I sell it to, but I dont solicit to everyone I meet immediately. My friends all buy from me, but only because they see how it all works and love it. I would never go posting on a board and ask everyone to buy products. It is something you find out about me only if I know you would be interested.
Hahaha...on that note...anyone want to buy some MK??!!! haha

I gave up on MK, seem like everytime I got a good rep they quit, so when the last one quit. I started buying some stuff from Aveda which is supposed to rival Origins. It's more natural looking than the MK stuff I was using.

Well...IF, and trust me I wont bother again, but IF there is something you would like to try - I do sell it and have been for several years. I just dont push it really hard.

What cracks me up about MLMs is how adament some sellers will be that their products are somehow amazingly better than those you can buy in stores. (As if P&G can't replicate some home product or cosmetic that works well.)
The one thing you can count on is that you'll end up paying too much for the product. The agent gets her cut, as does everyone in her "upline". If there's a less efficient method of product distribution, I've not seen it.

I have to disagree. I have the clearest most pure complextion - and I have been using the stuff for about 16 years. I agree that it may be pricey, but it is cheaper than clinique, origins, lancome, mac, and is on the same quality of them. I guess since you use so much makeup, you would know which products are best...right?

How do you define quality in a cosmetic?

How do you define quality in a cosmetic?
Since you seem to be the expert in Makeup, why dont you do that for us?

I AM a complete idiot for jumping into the middle of a makeup/cosmetic discussion....But all I know is...the less the better...AND it's very best use is to subtly enhance a woman's natural beauty (which all women have)! :)

I'm far from an expert, but I realize that like the fashion industry, it's fueled by psychology and using women's insecurities against them. My point is that unless you know what defines a higher quality product, how do you identify one? "Because the salesperson said so" is a rather dubious measure.

I'll bite I guess! For me personally, I like something that does not cause me to break out, something that doesn't feel heavy on or wet and no smell to it AT ALL. Those are critical things to me! I don't feel that makeup has to be expensive to work well and stopped buying Clinique years ago for that reason.

TripleA, you sound like a smart shopper. You've identified what's important to you about a product, and stick to the ones that deliver this, regardless of price. I'll bet the entire fashion industry hates you. ;)

Tiger, I'm a mom to 3 little ones - lately my wardrobe consists of nothing more than a t-shirt and capris or jeans :) I'm not too fancy these days! Plus, I hate spending tons of $$ on clothes, so I guess the fashion industry would hate me!

I've never been a fan of MK, but my sis-in-law swears by it. (she sells it, too) For me, it's all about how my skin feels when I wear it- no matter what the cost. I wear Stilla and Bare minerals on my face, but I combine it with Maybelline mascara and Lip Smackers.

I bought some PF pressed powder yesterday after consulting my girls on the right shade. I was disappointed there weren't more shades to chooe from, but I like the finish and they did a good job matching! Plus I had a $3 coupon at CVS so I am a happy shopper. My fvorite is Prescriptives, but its just too expensive and too little in the compact, lsted no time at all.
As for my fashion sense, I buy a lot of second hand stuff because its such a thrill to find a good label cheap!

Amazing how that works, isn't it? I've learned to never, ever, ever listen to a salesperson's "advice". Somehow, it's always that product he's trying to sell that will solve a problem.

But as we all know, what works for one may not work for others. You can't always blame these things on sales people. I liked Mary Kay products, my problem was just that I had sales reps that had other things come up and I couldn't get what I needed. I went through 3 and then just decided it was too much of a hassle and switched to something else. I love what I use now.
So what works for me may not work for someone else. It's just like clothes shopping, shopping at one store may be great for me but not for someone else.

A woman who had been our daughter's flute teacher started selling MK, then moved out of state. She will still order anything we want and pays the shipping herself. All we use is the hand cream. The podiatrist recommended it to me for dry feet and the pod. even sells it herself just to be able to get it for her patients.
