How did it go?
I was a minute late picking up my kids. The weather was turning bad and a thousand parents drove their cars to pick up their kids... me included. I couldn't get anywhere close to the school, so I parked in a nearby neighborhood and ran to the school! Just as I met my kids at the bike rack, it started to rain. We headed back to the car, loaded the bikes in the van and left. The car line hadn't even hinted like it was ready to move and I was then grateful that I hadn't been able to get closer.
The boys had a fantastic day! My Kindergartener was beaming and telling me all about having PE. He thought that was the coolest. And computers, that was a close second. My 2nd grader loved his class and his teachers and I have a good feeling about this year for him.

The car line to Houser went all the way around to the JUNIOR high, which meant it PASSED the high school as well. I was in it for an hour, finally picking up "A" 50 minutes after he got out. :(
So, then I had to turn around and go pick up the girls from York. THEN, pick up my son from football practice one hour later. Then, run to Academy for football stuff and get him to scouts. Poor kids are all asleep already. Thankfully, no homework tonight, although the kid living with us is already studying for a test on Thursday. Ugh.

Eaglesprings, did you notice the air was OUT at the school this morning? Hopefully they got it back on QUICKLY!

The car line at our school looked a lot better today (so did the bicycle parking!). The first week does typically taper off as everyone settles into a routine. Yesterday's traffic was scary!
Our school is having Kindergarten Information Night tonight at 6:30p. Typical. Dh is in Peru. My neighbor is going to watch my kids. I'll have to put them to bed a little later than they need. Ugh.

Dh took the youngest one to school today and I took the teens. He said it didn't take nearly as long to get out of our subdivision as yesterday.
I forgot all of the "extra" expenses that incur the first week. PTA (times 2), football equipment ($45), PE uniforms ($25), extra supplies that the teacher wants, organizers ($5 times 2 kids), etc...... Arrrrgh
And HOW MANY TIMES do we have to fill out the SAME information? What's up with filling out practically the same form over and over (times THREE!)?? LOL

Yeah, I still need to pay the PTA. Not looking forward to all those other expenses!
I thought I was getting away with only filling out 2nd grade forms - the youngest's teacher didn't have forms at orientation, so I thought maybe I'd taken care of all that when I registered him in the Spring. Nope, she sent home an indentical packet that I'd filled out for my 2nd grader last week! I should have just made copies of everything.

I just registered my oldest son last week and he came home with almost all of the same papers. Grrrr. I wish I had a copy machine at home. I would have filled one out, then just filled in the names.

I can't believe how good things are going right off the bat! The teachers seem like a good fit for both the kids, everyone's having *fun* - sorry, this is just my first experience at having a good start!

So far, so good for us too. My 2nd grader isn't thrilled with school and claims his teacher is "mean". But, he just said that and I can tell he is REALLY tired. He will be asleep within 30 minutes.

I *just* got my kids to bed and it's almost 8:30p! I'm not as worried about my 8yo, but my Kindergartener was wiped out at 3pm already. Stupid information night!

Ya'll are bringing back SUCH vivid memories! I guess some things never change...they just go on and on. I remember just how stressful it was. I worked in downtown Houston and had that awful commute. Fortunately, DH's job was closer in and flexible and he was able to get the kids off to school when they were little and by the time they got to 5th or 6th grade, they were pretty much fending for themselves and only missing the school bus about 3 times a year, LOL. But all the stress of the forms, getting to right classes, meeting the teachers, getting all the darn supplies, and on and on. I had forgotten how all that was such a daily grind in keeping the family going.
Ya'll are all doing a much better job than I did because I just wasn't there all the time and for that I feel guilty. But I was bringing home the money that kept us going and I did the best I could...and they DID, thankfully turn out into wonderful adults (no real thanks to me). Ya'll just remember that this will all be so over and gone before you even turn around twice and yes, you will actually miss all the hubbub!
Ahhhhhh I smell that first cup of coffee is now ready!

cg - you may not have been there to put them on the bus everyday, but you were there in their lives consistently every day as a part of the family. Your kids didn't turn out to be wonderful adults without you.

I agree with duck! I really don't know how working moms do it! I can't imagine all the stuff I have to do to keep this house & family running and then have another full-time commitment on top of that. It's got to be exhausting. Kudos to those of you that are organized and determined enough to do it.

Ha! Wilson. I just saw that there is a green "quotation" underneath your post here...did you put that in as part of your signature block or is it a carry-over from another post?
Here it is at 3:18 am and I'm laughing so much I almost spilled my coffee! You are a hoot!

It's now in my signature but I used Quote tags because I wasn't sure how seperate it would look from my posts. The software does automatically put a line between the posts and a sig, so it'll be fine without the Quote tags. I'll probably change it this afternoon.
Saw the Quote on a bumpersticker :D

The first time I noticed it, you had responded to something I wrote. I choked on my drink and had to go back through the thread trying to find who you were quoting.:D
What was throwing me, is that it doesn't show up in old threads.

I fixed the "quote" part, so now it's just a sig :p
