Or is it Minerals? Something like that. Can you buy this stuff at the grocery store or Target? Are there different brands or is Minerals the brand? I'm hoping it's not a MLM thing

I use Bare Escentuals (also called Bare Minerals). I LOVE it! You can buy a starter kit at Ulta or Sephora. The kits are just a bit different. I researched it a bit and ended up with the one from Ulta. It costs $60. QVC also sells it. I have bought additional brushes and an eye kit from them. It feels so good on my face. You actually do not even feel it on your face. I believe they have a website that will tell you more about it. I've seen lots of other mineral makeups. Not sure, but I believe this would be one of those cases where you get what you pay for.

That is helpful, thanks. I had no idea where to start! I've heard people talk about it, but couldn't remember that "Bare" part :p. I know where Ulta is and I'll check out that kit. Thanks again!

I just bought some from Walmart a few weeks ago- they had a starter kit with the foundation, blush & finishing powder for $20.

It's called Mineral Wear from Physicians Formula

I really like it- it is really light and havent has a problem with breaking out like I usually do with make up

I do like the Physician's Formula brand, but I'm wondering if Ulta will help me find the right shade. Then again, I'll tan a bit over the summer... I'll check both sets out - I'm going to be over at Target tomorrow anyway - they carry PF at Target and Ulta is in the next center over. Thanks!

W - in the starter kit, 2 different colors of "base" come with it. There are about 10 different kit colors to choose from. It also comes with a dvd to show you how to apply it.

My sister and Mom use the Bare Minerals and LOVE it. I can't get over the initial investment - I'm too cheap! But, I'm glad to hear someone has tried the PF stuff. I saw it at Wal-Mart too and wondered about it - Thanks!!

AAA - As often as I wear makeup, that $60 will last a long time. Also, you can replace just what you need rather than the entire $60 next time (brushes are included and you won't need to replace them).

Why is mineral makeup supposed to be better? I wear Mary Kay foundation, but rarely wear other makeup (eye shadow, blush, lipstick).

I've used the Bare Minerals off and on for a few years now. It is really not expensive at all (compared to other name brands) simply because you use so little and it lasts so long. I save it now for more special occasions (now that I'm not working in a corporate office) but i will admit when I do wear it, it takes years off my face. The only problem I have with it is that it is very drying. My skin is dry anyway and when I wear this it really dries out. Minerals are supposed to be better/healthier for your skin than the regular makeups with chemicals and additives.

I'm on my 4th jar of bare escentuals. The starter kit is worth it for the brushes alone. I used to use prescriptives so the price is good to me. I have thought about about trying the drug store brands but always find that I regret it. The quality of the brush is the key. I like the kabuki brush the best and it comes in the starter kit. I have lots of redness in my skin and find this evens it out the best. It's also great to use in out hot humid summers since it doesn't melt off. If you can justify the expense go for the good stuff! If you don't use it very often then it will last a long time.

Wow, sounds like something I need to check out. I am finally at an age I NEED to start wearing makeup to cover up the age spots (I prefer to call them freckles). I just don't have the even complexion I enjoyed for so many years. Guess it was becoming a Grandmother that aged me! ;)

One of the reasons I originally started using that Physician's Formula was for the "green" powder. I have such a red-tone in my face and the green is supposed to counter it nicely. I've been in the habit of using plain L'Oreal lately, though, and I would like to start taking better care again.

I just bought the Bare Escentuals starter kit at Sephora. I love it! It looks so much more natural than any liquid foundation I've tried. It does dry me out and I'm very oily. So, moisturizer is a must. The Mineral Veil is great. I have little to no shine. The only problem I've had is that the brushes seem to shed quite a bit.

natvtxn
07-31-2007, 03:11 PM
I've experienced the brushes shedding, also. I just look in that magnifying mirror and pick them off my face. I like the "feel" of the brushes, tho. I've bought more brushes and more makeup. Mostly bought it at Ulta. It truely looks so natural. It coveres blemishes, liver spots, broken capillaries, etc. I DO love it!

smcbelle
07-31-2007, 03:30 PM
I don't use a magnifying mirror. Things look bad enough without one!

The brushes are so soft. I'm anxious to try their eye makeup, too!

I am so glad you two posted this. My mother really wants to try it, but doesn't want to shell out the money to see if it really covers. I will tell her that you gals said it covers! LOL (She always FREAKS when I tell her about my "friends on the internet".)

I do not remember the specifics, but the kit from Sephora and the kit from Ulta are different. I liked (for whatever the reason was) the kit from Ulta better and bought mine there.

I use Bare Minerals, too -- I LOVE IT! I read on the net somewhere about an additional brush that you can buy to use on the problem spots and undereye before putting it all over your face. I got the little brush (it is flat, about the size & shape of a slivered almond) and use it on the spots before doing the allover cover -- and it works GREAT.

I am sold....Oh, and my skin looks better than ever! People are always commenting on my 'good' skin -- ha! It is the Bare Minerals. Also, it does last a long time -- the thing to remember is a little goes a LONG ways.

Tell her it definitely covers better than just about anything. I don't find it expensive at all when you consider how long it lasts and when you compare it to other good department store brands. If you compare it drug store brands it is a little more but I'll use 4 bottles of liquid foundation before I use one of the Bare Minerals. And it completely covers my roseacea and other old age blemishes. My only beef is that my skin is very dry and I use a ton of moisturizer...and this stuff reallyyyyyyyyy dries it out even more. I have never cared for matte finishes and that is definitely what you get with BM. I'd love to see just a little shine of moisture in this ol' skin, LOL.

I got a sales ad in the mail from ULTA yesterday. There is a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase. They are also advertising a starter kit for the pur minerals makeup. It's $35 for the starter set and you can use the 20% off coupon. At that price, I may be willing to see what the fuss is all about!

How does this make-up (mineral make-up) hold up to the heat? I end up so hot during the day and have to keep re-applying powder and then my face feels yucky by the end of the day!

"How does this make-up (mineral make-up) hold up to the heat?"

It holds up really, really well. I swear I CANNOT feel the makeup on my face!

The girls at Sephora in the mall are good about applying it on your face. That is what sold me on it, going in bare-faced and getting the treatment from them.

I went ahead and bought the Physician's formula at Target this morning. It was a little over $20 for the foundation and "veil". They both came with brushes. My mom started off using the expensive Bare Minerals brand but recently switched to Physicians Formula and said she can't see a difference other that the price! I already have my face on today, so I will try my new stuff tomorrow.

Wow! 34 posts, so no way I can take time to read through the whole thread! But, if someone can give me a recap......

A brand of mineral make up is on sale at Sam's. I picked up the package, thought it looked pretty neat, then saw the $80 price tag! About that time, the sales rep came over and gave me the spill. I do like the sounds of it. $80 covered base, blush, some brushes, oh, and something else, I can't remember. It's supposed to last 6 months with daily wear.

So, can someone give me a recap? Is the $80 at Sam's worth what they are offering? Or, should I follow Triple A to Target? I do have rosceia, so need a good cover all makeup!

TripleA
09-14-2007, 05:23 PM
Since you have rosecia, I would recommend going to Sephora or maybe Ulta and asking their opinion. My mom says it covers very well and Bare Minerals even makes a powder concealer that she loves. She uses the Physicians Formula otherwise. She told me the brushes are very important and so I'm hoping that the ones that came with the PF stuff are good enough. She prefers the ones from Bare Minerals, but she paid $$ for them too!

To sum it up, I would consult with someone who knows more about the product and coverage at Ulta or Sephora. Or, try the cheaper PF and you won't be out too much $$ if it doesn't work out!

I have still had to reapply the "veil" finishing powder several times today from getting shiny! I'm going to keep using it. Triple, I think something is wrong. Now I have never used the Physicians Formula. I've always stuck to the Bare Minerals brand - but I have also used all the other name brands in the Us I do believe - all the dept store brands, drug stores, you name it. I've never gotten coverage before like I get it with the BM mineral makeup. I have roseaca also which is what led me to get it in the first place.

I will admit that the reason mine lasts so long is because I dont' wear it every day around the house, or to the golf course or supermarket. I use it when I'm going out to almost any other places though. One thing I like is that it takes so little to cover. What I don't like about it is it is very drying. I always feel like my face is about to crack. But it hides my redness, old age spots and other stuff!

natvtxn
09-16-2007, 12:17 PM
I don't find it drying at all, CG. Maybe more moisturizer in your dry areas (or is it your whole face). I'm sold on the BM, I don't think I would change to another one.

Side note....I think the ladies at Sephora are more knowledgeable about BM than Ulta, but I like the kit from Ulta better.

cgwoolf
09-17-2007, 06:20 AM
Well, to be honest, my skin is dry everywhere. But I use a ton of moisturizer, morning, noon and nite and always under makeup. It just seems that the mineral makeup really accentuates the dryness...or makes my skin feel drier.

I spent about $80 on Bare Escentuals products at Sephora today. I belong to their "Beauty Insider" club. Between the starter kit and the stuff I bought today, I managed to spend enough to get the free retractable travel brush. It's a $30 brush!

09-22-2007, 09:25 AM
Well I'm the one that's been saying it is drying - but you have toconsider the source. I'm 59 and have very very dry skin with or without makeup. The minerals tend to make it feel tighter/drier/face will crack...BUT I look better with it own - a few years better! And a big plus...I wore it 2 days in row this week to go play in golf tourny and at 6 pm that nite I still had on makeup. That never happens when I wear golf. So yes it is good stuff!

TripleA
09-22-2007, 10:17 AM
I have had oily skin lately - much more so than usual. It may be pregnancy related, not sure! Anyway, I read somewhere on the internet that if you have oilier skin, apply the mineral veil FIRST, then the foundation minerals, the the mineral veil again. Having the mineral veil on before the foundation helps to control oiliness. I tried that and it did help alot, although I did feel like I had makeup on that day, so I've gone back to the regaulr way of doing things. I usually reapply a bit of the veil once or twice a day in the oily spots and that helps. Sorry if the answer is so-so, but experiment and see what works for you!

eaglesprings
09-22-2007, 01:12 PM
So, someone clarify this for me:

Will Ulta help you choose the brand or shade that is right for you? Teach you "the basics" for us ameteurs?

I'm ready to bite the bullet and get some (especially after cg said it stayed on two days! I re-apply base a few times a day!) But, I'd like to know what I'm doing, too. I really didn't want to buy from the guy at Sam's. It sounds like a comparable price, but he's not going to be there "all the time," and I'd rather buy from someone local, that I can return to when I need advice, or new stuff. I don't want to go bankrupt on make up, but I need something better than I've been doing.

msmichellemiller

They should do Bare Mineral parties to mix up tips and tricks along with helping gals buy the right kits. Like Tupperware.

eaglesprings
09-23-2007, 09:05 AM
Parties like that are fun, but usually expensive....more expensive than buying from a store. The whole idea is to get people to have parties at their own homes to earn discounts or "goods." Still, the quality is quite often better. (Thinking Pampered Chef).

There is a DVD (about 30 minutes) that comes with the Bare Escentuals starter kit. They show you exactly how to put the makeup on.

If you're going to go to the store for advice, I'd choose Sephora over Ulta. Even if you don't buy a kit there, they just always seem more knowledgeable to me. And, if you do buy something there, you can usually score some free samples!

QVC also sells Bare Escentuals. Sometimes, they have products or kits that you can't find anywhere else. I just ordered a Blemish Treatment from them.

My mom thought it was weird to come check on me at bedtime and I was watching HSN on my tiny tv (black and white no less). What can I say?? I bought some Tuesday. I haven't worn it yet, but I did clean out bathroom drawers so I could keep it all neat and organized, not just tossed in with "junk" like my old makeup was.

I'll probably try it out either today or tomorrow to make sure I know what I'm doing before church on Sunday.

I don't think my starter kit had the kabuki (sp?) brush. Isn't that the little short, fat one? I have lots of redness, too, that is very embarrassing to me. If the brush makes the differene, I may go buy one.

I was thinking about posting on this thread again this morning and then I saw you had ES. I was wanting to know how everyone was liking it. I still haven't bought it because I don't wear makeup in the summer and wanted to get the right shade for the winter.

So, I will be going to purchase it within the next month.

I'll give you a full report after I've tried it out, FG. The sales rep at Ulta did "color match" me, so I think I'll be happy with it. I'll let you know.

I kind of like the fact the makeup has vitamins in it. I've read that vitamins can be absorbed through the skin, and I need more vitamins! The nutritionist I saw to get started on a diet plan has a machine that measures antioxidant levels in the body. I failed! Since then, I've been following a good plan and taking vitamins. If my makeup has vitamins in it, all the better!

Oh, Family Gal, the Bare Escentials starter kit has two shades of foundation. One is a little darker for those "summer" months when we tend to tan, and need a darker shade. The makeup has an SPF of about 15, too.

Well, I put it on today. I'm pleased with it, but it is rather messy. The "powder" drops out onto the bathroom counter when I "swirl and tap." Tomorrow, I'll remember to do that over the sink.

My best friend who uses this swears that the kabuki brush makes all the difference. She didn't have one at first, and wasn't getting the results she expected. She watched the video and noticed they used the kabuki brush in the video.

eaglesprings

I'll probably end up going back for the brush.

I still don't like that the powder falls out when I swirl and "tap." I am careful to tap over the sink now, but I feel like it is wasteful. I like the "lasting power" though. Some of my redness still shows through, but I don't resemble Ruduoph quite as much.

natvtxn

Hi, Natv: I didn't think I was, because I watched the video, and also followed a tip the lady at Ulta told me -- just to poke some pinholes in the insert thingee rather than removing it. But, maybe I'm still getting too much in there. I'll try a little less and just shake as needed to see if that helps.

Also, I only have the starter kit. I don't wear a whole lot of makeup, so figured that's probably enough, but other than the Kabuki brush, is there anything that's not in the starter kit that you (or anyone) else just cannot live without?

I'm willing to bet that the Bare Escentuals will work. My dil works outside with dark safety glasses on. Needless to say, she has serious "raccoon face". She married my son 4 weeks ago and to take care of that the make up artist used the BE. You could NOT tell she had severe tan lines on her face. It will cover rosacea also. Go to Sephora and have them put it on your face and see. There is a broad range of colors to be able to get the right one.

Monday morning 8AM on QVC, Bare Escentuals for 2 hours. Leslie Blodgett (THE expert for BE) will show you products that you cannot buy in stores, as well as those available in Sephora and Ulta. I've bought several things on there that I love...brushes (special QVC sets), eye shadows, and eye liners. Those of you that know me, know I do NOT wear a lot of makeup.
