View Full Version : My kids are exhausted

And the little one is coming down with some kind of virus or something. His asthma is getting bad and he threw up last night. I think letting them spend the 3-day weekend (right after the first week of school) with my mom maybe was too much. They really need some rest! We're hitting the beds early tonight.

I sent DD and DS to bed at 7 last night - they needed it! And DS napped today without fighting me. He swore he wasn't tired, but I had to wake him at 2:45 to run carpool to pick up his sister and my friends son!
There must be something going around. My best friend was throwing up this morning and I pray the kids don't get it - hers or mine! DD has had a cough and some stuffiness. Maybe it's all of the kids being back together at school and sharing germs. They aren't around that as much during the summer and bam they are back in the middle of it.

Maybe there is something going around and the "group effort" is exasperating the viruses! I'm glad you said that about your friend... I really thought he was just nauseous from the phlegm, but now I know to be on the alert. It's going to be light dinners for us lol.

I didn't realize getting one in bed 15-20 minutes late would make such a huge difference this morning. Two of the uncles were over last night and were playing Guitar Hero with the kids. We let my youngest stay up until 8:45 and he was a BEAR this morning. It was not pretty.
On the other hand, the twins stayed up 45 minutes later than their bedtime and were both up before me and already dressed.

I think we're going to need this weekend to recuperate. One night helped, but my youngest is still barely hanging in there. I'm not liking the full-day kindergarten schedule :(.

My youngest had half day Kindergarten. Switching to full time last year in 1st was rough on him as well. And, yours is a year younger. It will take him a few weeks probably. I'm really thinking I need to push up my son's bedtime to 8:00 or 8:15. It is just so hard to do when you have other kids in the house staying up later.

Agreed. And my 2nd grader totally balks at the idea of going to bed at 7:30p. But I can't get the youngest to stay in bed or go to sleep with his brother still up. We'll figure it out and get a routine that is doable, but for now I'm daydreaming about half-day Kindergarten. But the fact is I despised half-day Kindergarten! You can't run errands in 2 1/2 hours! LOL!

ITA and not to mention how much could they really learn in that short span of time?

I really hate to say this outloud, but I think that my youngest has gotten more out of Kindergarten this first week and a half, than my oldest did his entire year of (half-day) Kindergarten.

How is little one doing today? I hope he is doing better.
I know about one going to bed before the other, but we told our youngest that when he got to be such and such age, he too could stay up that late but only if he was good about going to bed at his bedtime now. It has worked so far:).

DD had half day kindergarten last year and I didn't see how they could fit it in all in that short a time. She is having some difficulty adjusting to a full day this year. But, our school switched to full day Kindergarten this year, so she and DS (who starts kindergarten next year) will have the same schedule - for that I am grateful! That will mean lots of mommy time with the baby next year :)

We are telling that to my youngest as well. Same with him getting a cell phone when he is 13. He thinks he needs one now. <sigh>
We even hesitated about getting the twins one so early, but with them staying after school so much, I finally broke down. Now, I LOVE it. There is NO excuse for them not contacting me or being late without telling me, etc....
But, seven is too young. He is never without an adult.

I do try to give my older son priviledges that the younger doesn't get yet, but for the bedtime - we're only almost 2 weeks into school and he'd lay upstairs and get out of bed and yell for more water or another story or *everything* if his brother was still up. I need him to just go to sleep this week!

His asthma is tremendously better today and he's not thrown up any more. Thanks for asking :) *and* for covering for me last night.

Rusti, how did your rally go last night?

It always seemed to me like as soon as they went back to school - they got sick. As it was happening, it did not occur to me how different their lives were during the summer as opposed to school year - but it is a big difference and they always seemed to be exhausted the first couple of weeks of school - exhausted and sick.
Some things just don't change I guess.

FG - it was a little slow. We have one more thing we are going to try, but as you know it is hard to Rally when you can't get into the schools anymore.
Didn't you have another one last night?

No, we just had our first meetings. (Multi-level until leaders step up.) I did have a few bring back their apps though and will get them to you Monday. (Along with t-shirt sizes.)
We are having our big garage sale tomorrow, so tonight and tomorrow I will be focused on that and then will focus on getting the forms to you.
We are also printing up "invitations" to join scouts and each scout is taking them to their class. They are taking one for each kid in their class and the teacher will put them in their folder like a b-day invitation. Even the girls will get one, because we were thinking perhaps they had a brother! I ask everyone how they heard about us and on the card I am offering those Brad Lidge Scout Baseball cards to all that join. (I had some dad who was convinced he make money with them on eBay last night. LOL...Whatever.)
