We always make "ghoul"ash and I take hotdogs and slice up about half way in four places. You boil the hotdogs and they curl up where you sliced, making it look like an octopus. :D
We LOVE Halloween at our house. My daughter is already bugging me about sewing her costume. (Something Harry Potter, of course. She is obsessed...lol)

My kids are totally into Halloween too! We go to a great party with family at my mom's house every year. The dollar store (Dollar Tree) actually had some pretty great decorating stuff. I haven't bought any yet because that's not what I was there for, but I plan to go back soon. DH loves Halloween too. Next to Christmas, it's my favorite holiday.
DD is going as Hannah Montana, so all I need is the wig - no biggie. DS wants to be a transformer - Optimus Prime. Since it was DH's idea, he gets to make it. I'm not sure how, but I have a feeling lots of cardboard boxes will be involved!

And a really hick accent. ;) Maybe your hubby can go as Billy Ray and wear a tail.

Do you guys dress up? (The adults.) We are actually planning on having a Halloween party this year. One where the kids can enjoy it from 7-9, then have the kids go back home to sitters and the adults enjoy the rest of the evening. My old neighbors used to have Halloween parties for years and it was always a blast. The kids had it early in the evening, then everyone took the kids home and came back to mingle with the adults.
We have a huge backyard that would be perfect for a Halloween party. (Spooky at night too...lol) Hopefully it will be cooler then too so we can have the fire going.

We love Hannah Montana too! She is coming to Toyota Center sometime late November. Tickets go on sale September 15th at 10 am - my butt needs to be at the computer ready to go for that!! DD is desperate to go. She can do the hick accent - I never thought of DH going as Billy Ray, but that would be perfect! I like Hannah Montana because it's nice to have a show that teaches values and you don't have to worry about the kids watching something inappropriate.

I triple love Halloween! Always joke that I want to change my birthday to that day!
I'm sort of a scare-lover and have been wondering how much I can get away with here....my first year here, so I don't know if we will have a good flow of trick or treaters and am also worried about potentially offending people.
For instance, I plan to pipe music out of my window (the theme song from the movie Halloween) and a few gory decorations to make it very creepy. My goal is to make some think twice about even braving the trip up to our door...but then I realize it is for kids and I wouldn't want to upset a parent or child.
I wouldn't do anything that I wouldn't want my own kids to experience, but I think I'm a little different in that department than most around here.
You think gore would be pushing it too far? Or the element of surprise?

I just bought two Halloween CD's from Walgreens for $3. I can't wait until Halloween. Dh and I are planning a party and it is the first Halloween party we have hosted. We have wanted to for years, but usually he works. We are going to have one for the kids on Friday (before Halloween) and one for the adults on Saturday.
I need IDEAS for games and recipes. I want to go ALL OUT. We have a really big back yard that can be really spooky. We will have a bonfire going and music going on in the back and in the house. I need some alcoholic recipes too that are ghoulish!!!
Oh, and it is costume. I need some ideas for me and dh.

You've got older kids, so I think it would be okay. Like, I'm not going to send my (little) kids off to a house by themselves that looks really spooky-decorated, especially if I know the kids that live there are a little older than mine. We might go check it out all together, but I definitely expect the scariness to increase as a family's children get older, y/k? If you live in a neighborhood with only toddlers, though, you might reconsider. But I'll bet if you have a lot of neighbor kids 8-10 & up, they'd love it!

I won't make the porch too scary (for trick or treaters) or really the backyard for the kids. There will be younger kids there as well. I plan on having a kids' party on Friday, then stepping up the decorations a notch for the adult party on Saturday night.
I like the cutesy (pumpkins and cute ghosts) for the yard look. But, was thinking the backyard could be cool for an adult Halloween party.

I just bought a fog machine. :) My kids (okay me and dh too) are really getting into this. I couldn't believe how busy Party City was just now. If you buy costumes from there, buy now or they will be sold out soon.

not sure who would have time to go to all this trouble, but it sure is an awesome cake! It's called a Thorax cake and it contains all organs in the thoracic cavity! Picture and recipe here:
