Are we going to have advertisements in threads on this community?
Wilson

I don't know? How does everyone else feel about it? We have several options:
1) Not allow it at all - when it happens, I delete it, end of story.
2) Move it to Classifieds, Commerce & Charity (what I initially had in mind for that forum)
3) Leave it be and let the users of this forum criticize, applaud, discuss, or ignore.
I'm seriously interested in how people feel about it. I wanted this to be the *community's* community. There is no one group making decisions as they see fit here. I'd like the user's input and will make adjustments accordingly.

My opinion is to move it to the classified forum and if anyone is interested they can reply, if not they can just ignore it. I would think that if the site is over run by this type of junk you may have to do something about it. Some of the other boards I use just ignore this kind of stuff and move on.

Moving it to "CCC" was my first reaction and I'll go ahead and do this today. I appreciate your input and do hope that others will still voice their opinion.

That was easy! I do hope this doesn't prove to be an inconvenience to any of our users.

You gotta keep up, HWG! ;) It started out like that but changed midstream.
FWIW, my opinion is to allow ads in this category. Let it take its ride. Besides, think about how many times it has come in handy to be informed from our local friends.

Thought Texas was one of three states, in which it was still illegal to sell such things?
Also do you want people who google 'relationship enhancement' &c finding your forum here?
I went through this with TimesToCome in its very early days. Way back when we had what was called 'link spam'. People could post a link that would show up only in the log files for your the site. So the search engines would see the link but you wouldn't unless you were checking your log files all the time. That's gone now, we have better security.
So people searching for porn &c would find your site from the link spam. You can read the search queries in your log files. There are some amazingly creepy people out there.
You might want to suggest business postings be G-rated and relevant to users of the forum?

I'm willing to wait and see what happens. I can keep an eye on it through the backend (har har har) and curb anything else that comes up that users may find questionable as far as content goes. Thanks for the heads(har har har)-up!

Interestingly enough, we currently have 9 Googlebots crawling the forums, as opposed to the usual 1-3. Hmmmm.

It is very interesting to see all your replys. First, this topic is always a "hot" topic and I understand everyone’s concern. Second. I am not trying to post "creepy" or R-Rated material any where, where people get offended. I am trying to network my business. If you were to go to PureRomance.com you would learn that there is more to my business then "sex" parties and it is not PORN. I sell my products just like Mary Kay ladies sell theirs. I am an individual and I am not trying to spam I am trying to find women that have thought about having parties and let them know that I am out there as well as many other consultants in this area. As a Pure Romance consultant I follow many rules and regulations to keep what I do tasteful and legal. I also pride my self in teaching women about them selves. Helping women make themselves more comfortable in their own skin and helping keep relationships together. I started with Pure Romance when I lived in a small military town and noticed all of my husbands shipmates wives were leaving them because they couldn't handle the separation from their husband and would get swept off their feet for the affection of another guy. My products are exactually what I said before, Relationship Enhancements. I do not just sell novelty items. We have spa products, lotions, candles, bubble baths, night gowns, body shimmers, body sprays and so much more that just "sex" toys.
The History of Pure Romance
In 1983, while on maternity leave from her job as a medical assistant for four pediatricians, Patty Brisben took a break at home to watch The Phil Donahue Show. On that particular day, it featured a company that was recruiting women to sell adult bedroom toys in home party settings. Intrigued, Brisben realized she identified with these women. As a divorced mother of four, she was always looking for a viable solution which would provide for her family, yet still allow her to remain actively involved in her children's lives.
Shortly after watching the show, Brisben signed up as a distributor and was so successful after the first year, she left her medical assistant job to pursue her new full-time career.
After years of profitably working with a multi-level marketing company, the company folded leaving Brisben and her down line stranded. Determined to draw on her years of experience and lead the way for her down line, Brisben decided to open the doors to her very own in-home party plan, Slumber Parties, Inc.
In 1993, with only $5,000 and 55 Consultants, Patty self-funded and motivated the launch of Slumber Parties. During the first years, Patty filled orders from the basement of her home; now employees fill orders from a 40,000-square-foot distribution center in Loveland, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati).
For years Slumber Parties led the industry for in-home party plans specializing in relationship enhancement. In 2001, Brisben brought on her eldest son, Chris Cicchinelli, to run the day-to-day operations. The two formulated a five-year plan that would take Slumber Parties to a new level. Brisben and Cicchinelli realized that Slumber Parties had become more than just a party plan; it had become a practical resource for women who wanted to take responsibility for either their financial means or their sexuality. Not only would Slumber Parties launch a national marketing campaign, within two years the company would change its name to Pure Romance.
In the Fall of 2003, Brisben and Cicchinelli began the process of re-branding the new name, first throughout the West Coast and Southwest, then moving on to tackle the East Coast, and Midwest. The venture led to a total overhaul of over 60 markets. By the beginning of 2004 - Pure Romance was in full swing, and took the nation by storm. Currently in over 100 markets, Pure Romance has truly become America's number one reason for a girls' night in.
Still leading the industry, Pure Romance continues to raise the bar with their fresh designs, production of high-quality product, unique packaging as well as commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for their Consultants and customers. It continues to maintain a concept that emphasizes values and versatility.
Annually, Pure Romance spends over $3 million in advertising and training for the company and its Consultants. As for Patty, all four of her children now share her passion. Each hold distinguished positions within the company including President: Chris Cicchinelli, Director of Operations: Nick Cicchinelli, Advertising Coordinator: Matthew Brisben and Editorial Assistant: Lauren Brisben.
The company's financial projections for the fiscal year of 2005 are expected to exceed over $50 million in retail sales.

I don't recall excluding men? My dh was probably here - maybe he just locked himself in the bedroom though. I have a friend that was doing Passion Parties and I hosted a WUG party. Seriously, I remember it being fun... I'll just *never* forget the dildo suctioned to the fireplace for a demonstration

Yeah, we can't allow men at the parties. If there were a guy there and a cop were to walk in it would be considered soliciting sex. Plus, Pure Romance is a company that appeals to women. We want to give them (women) a comfortable environment to buy the things they want. Pure Romance is like Passion Parties but I hope a little more sophisticated! Oh, and personally I find going to a party like that more comfortable when its only women. We are more open and they are willing to spend more money! :P

Randi wrote "I am a real person!"
I understand you are a real person - I don't think anyone thinks otherwise ;). I've had a chance to think about this and here is the real issue... these kinds of communities are not designed for fly-by-night posters. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. It's discouraging to regular users to see someone come in and advertise their business, hoping to get business out of the community, but not putting in any real effort into that community. *That* is why it's a "hot topic"; it's not necessarily what your business is about.
If you or anyone else were to be a regular, contributing member of the community, I'd hope that you'd tell us about your business or even put it in your sigline or something. But my guess is that your sigline won't make a difference, because you won't post enough for everyone to see it. Just don't be surprised when people grumble about seeing a post like this, when you haven't put anything else into the community.

06-04-2007, 09:57 PM
That was my feeling. It really didn't have anything to do with the content but just seemed like a business decision the poster made which if that's the case then put it in "classifieds". I really don't want to start opening topics all the time and find ads. I think if someone wants to network their business that's fine too but just put it where it belongs - in a business or classified area.
As for the "english" remark by HeWeGo69, that wouldn't happen to be our English man from the other site would it??:) Just making a guess - could be wrong.

Well, from now on, I won't wait for the discussion - I'll move it here. You all are still welcome to discuss, I just won't wait for it. We'll see how that goes, and if there are other changes that need to be made we can certainly discuss those as well. It's all good :)

Well, I said I was a real person becuase I didn't want people to think I am one of those people that post things and don't pay attention to it. I am replying to everything I feel needs an answer. I just got wind of this site today. I am going to take every advantage I can to try and met people. Introducing my business is a great conversation starter. I see my business as an entertainment not as a classified. That is why I first posted in entertainment. It is entertaining to have a group of people over and enjoy them selves. But, I do understand where everyone would think I should be in classifieds! :) Again, you may not see my name much because I just moved to the area.

Hehe, now I remember it too.
Randi, you posted on the Flylady group earlier as well. It was the first post to the group, so it came across as you just joined the group to post your business.
I'm all for promoting what we love, but it would be much more welcomed if you stayed around and posted before you started posting for your business. Since you have already posted about your business, we would love to get to know YOU. ;)

Yup, what a small world! When you have an "in-home" party buisness you are urge to find sites, groups, clubs, bars etc. to post flyers and ads. I am glad that everyone has kept replying. It has given me the chance to talk a little more and know that this site isn't fake like may others. I would love to share a little information about me. I was born and raised in Dallas. I married a sailor and moved to GA for a few years and recently he was transferred back to Texas to be a Navy Recruiter. I have been with PR for almost 3 years, I joined b/c I liked what the company was about. PR is my career for now, I am attending college to get a masters in math. That about sums it all up! All I know about a few of you is that you are mothers and one of you is an English Man! What do you all do?

I've never been to one of these types of parties, but understand they are quite a riot! I'm sure husband would be pleased to see me go. Heck, I might even get some free childcare for such an event! LOL!

I was about 22 when I attended my first "Passion Party" and my mother-in-law was there. I thought I was going to die of embarassment. Especially at the end of the party when dh walks through the door with a few other husbands and asks what I bought, with a huge grin. :o
They ARE a riot. Wine is a must, as everyone loosens up and giggles. Those are the only parties my husband hands me the credit card and says "Buy whatever you want." You would never hear him say that about Mary Kay, Pampered Chef or Tupperware! :p

Well I just now saw this. Randi, welcome to our little world.
To get back to the original question, I prefer to see these in the classified section rather than banning them altogether. Then we can choose if we are interested enough to read about.

Hehe, a ladybug in our house is a little girl's private parts. After joking about it at the passion party, we kidded Crunchy about all of the ladybugs she had on her front door. I still think "tickets" is a cute name. (Something AAA uses for a little girl's chest...Pull down your shirt, your tickets are showing!)
Funny the names we come up with for kids.
We were at Splashtown today and you wouldn't believe all the tickets we saw! These young girls needed to cover 'em up!

I am lost! LOL. What are you referring to when you say Ladybugs??? How is splashtown? Off the high way it looks small, it there more to the park then you can see just by driving by? Is it expensive to get in?
FamilyGal
06-06-2007, 07:46 PM
A ladybug is what my husband used to refer to a woman's private parts. So, Triple's icon makes me laugh.
Splashtown is cool. It is really big once you are inside. It is expensive unless you get a pass though. An adult is $32.99 for the day and a child $23.99. A pass is just $54.99. And, if you get it before 6/17, you get a free parking pass. The dang parking pass is $10 each time otherwise. (Which I think is ridiculous.)
You can get away with not renting a tube because the rides requiring a tube provide it just the ride. The only time you would want a tube is for the lazy river or the wave pool. We went without because if I paid the $6/tube for the five of us, it would add $30 per day. They really do bend you over at the wallet. We bought passes and eat right before we go. We don't rent tubes, just a locker (another $9). So, all we pay is $9.
That all being said, it is a good deal if you get a pass and not buy all of the extras. My twins are old enough to go off together, then dh and I hang out with my youngest. He is old/tall enough to ride most of the rides, so we just hang out with him. :) We are going again in the morning.
