I love Rico's (Alden Bridge). No, it's no gourmet Tex-Mex or anything close, but it's good food and consistent. There is one big thing that irritates me, though: The El Rellano... (may have mispelled that...) it's $8.99 and basically a big pepper stuffed with chicken or beef and then fried. Up two options is the exact same thing, under a different name, for $10.99. I always order the El Rellano, but no matter how much I've complained to the manager, they won't change the menu (always say they're working on it) and won't honour the $8.99, unless you get it without beef or chicken. It's so stupid! Just honour the dang price until you get the menu changed!
There, I've said it. We still love to go to Rico's, though :p.
Somebody I met recently said that they can't stand Rico's and can't figure out why it stays in business. I was shocked! LOL! It's not Pappasito's, but still! I need to ask her what Mexican food places they *do* like, to figure out what the deal is, I guess.

And, where is Rico's? I'm sure someone has told me this before.
We rarely eat Mexican unless we can go to Mucho Mexico down in Houston. After that, nothing else really does the trick. Love walking in and looking into the kitchen to see the goat on the spit! LOL! (However, I've never actually tried the goat).
We'll make a stop into Lupe Tortilla's once in a blue moon, and we're actually glad to have one on this side of town. Food is quite good, but, it's not "real," if you know what I mean. It's good, though.

I love Rico's! It is just really busy when we go though. But, I never have to wait to be seated. It is a hoppin' place and has GREAT strawberry margaritas. Are there specials on Mondays & Tuesdays? I think dh and I are going there tomorrow for lunch.
ES, Rico's is in Alden Bridge, next to the Krogers.

Yeah, this is probably not a place I would drive for, but I really prefer things closeby. I did ask my new friend which place they prefer - Chuy's. I used to love Chuy's, but it just feels too far now. Maybe we should go again - it's been so long, maybe I've just forgotten.

I've only been to Rico's once, shortly after they opened in AB. We enjoyed it! We haven't been back because we have other good tex-mex choices closer to us, but I am looking forward to our October lunch!

EWWWWW I hate Chuy's!!! I swear the salsa that they give you is ketchup and the other ranch dressing. Ricos is great. Good food, fast friendly service but it's a little loud sometimes.

We sat outside yesterday evening (Kid's Eat Free, Sundays) and it was *significantly* quieter out on the porch! I'm not that crazy about eating outside there, but we may start doing that more often.

I didn't think that it was fantastic when we all went for lunch, but then the drive was longer than expected for me.
I'm probably in the same area as msucowboy; Mario's is my favorite haunt. I've been eating there since he opened the old place in the strip mall.

I heard nothing but great things about Chuy's for 2 years so DH and I decided to try it one Friday for lunch while we were out running errands, as we were going right by there. Boy was I disappointed...will never return. Louder than Rico's (I hate noise). Salsa was just awful. Margaritas not great and 90% of menu was chicken. I hate hate hate any mexican dish if made with chicken. So I ordered one of the 2 -3 beef entrees (fajitas for one I think it was) and it was about as mediocre as you can get...and the price was outlandish for what we got.
Where the heck is Mario's? So far, I've never been disappointed in Rico's. And I think the place that is now close to my house, Macayo's is excellent as well. It is very quiet when we go (lunch or early evening) and the food is made fresh every day, family owned. Nothing fancy but tasty. I like Rico's salsa better.

Last year a group of us met for lunch at Red Phoenix Hunan on 242. We had a private room so it was quiet and we could hear each other. The food was very good, too.

Marios is on the corner of Rayford & Richards road. (About 1/2 mile east of I-45)

Another good place to try is Mama Juanitas in the strip center of Charming Charlies at 242.

I've eaten at Red Pheonix when I used to work at College Park. I thought the food was very good.

Well just to throw my 2 cents in...I think Lupe's is where it's at when it comes to tasty tex-mex. You won't get a funky, chewy piece of fat that you run the risk of with so many authentic places.
The beef fajitas are top quality and I am a very picky person when it comes to what sort of meat mex resturaunts use in their dishes. Margaritas worth the money, too. It is loud, though. A lot of hustle/bustle going on and crowded seating. The food is worth it, but I'd only go on an all-adult outing, no kids. We took our kids last time and the chaos freaked my toddler out so much we had to leave before we could finish our food as it was fresh. Not to mention the second round of margaritas we'd just ordered! :D
And the salsa is decent, not ketchup but not what you'd solely come to the resturaunt for;) Ask for the greenish/brown salsa if you are the type that likes it hot, the red won't do it for ya!

Is it Cafe Adobe that is across the freeway from Chuy's? You guys are reminding me that there *are* other Mexi places out there lol.

ok everyone is giving their take on place's
Rico's---I loved their food. not to pricey, can be loud. But when i lived in the AB. it was my first choice.
Lupe---maybe the best food but you will pay for it. Sorry I am not going to pay 40 dollars for me and my wife to eat mexican
Cafe' adobe--well they can kiss my white ass. I have boycotted that place before it was built up here. I had a bad service at the one in midtown. I was told by the waiter to get my own silverware. Threw the drinks at my wife. the manager just said the waiter is having a bad day. He still expected us to pay for the meal. They called the police on us. because we refused to pay. We didnt eat and we didnt send them the cleaning bill
Red Phoniex---we have been a few times over the past year or so. But there is a place next to Mi Luna's in SR that we like. Best fried rice.
Mario's---Just something when you walk in and see the owner walking around talking to customers and helping the staff. Mr. Mario has even given me and my wife a free drink or two at times. I guess they know us by name. :)....I will admit its not the best but its ok price for the ok food but service is by far the best i have had in the woodlands.

I suggested Red Phoenix because of the quiet, private room.
Rico's was noisy, so it made it hard to hear conversations.

We could probably sit in that back room and get a little more privacy. I doubt they'd send other people back there once we ask for our "Table for 15" lol.
