Residents Invited to Help Keep The Woodlands Clean Throughout October
THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Woodlands Township is asking residents to grab a pair of gloves, gather their family, neighbors or coworkers and help keep the community clean during the annual Fall Sweep.
The community-wide litter cleanup challenge runs throughout the month of October and gives residents the flexibility to participate when and where it works best for them.
Choose Your Own Cleanup Location
Unlike a traditional cleanup event centered around a single location and date, Fall Sweep allows participants to select their own cleanup area.
Parks, pathways, neighborhood green spaces, areas near businesses and tree lines where litter can accumulate are all potential locations.
Individuals can participate on their own, or residents can create teams with family members, neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, clubs and other organizations.
There’s a Little Friendly Competition, Too
Participants are encouraged to report the results of their cleanup efforts, including an estimate of the litter collected and photos from their project.
Groups can complete and report multiple cleanups during October.
At the end of the month, groups that collect the highest overall volume of litter are expected to receive recognition from the Township. Award categories are divided by group size, giving individual residents and large organizations alike an opportunity to participate.
Keep Safety in Mind
The Township recommends wearing gloves, closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing while collecting litter. Participants should also be prepared for warm weather with water, sunscreen and insect repellent.
Residents should avoid snakes and other wildlife, use caution around wooded areas and avoid handling potentially hazardous materials.
Large or hazardous items should be reported to The Woodlands Township rather than collected by volunteers.
A Simple Way to Make a Visible Difference
With more than 220 miles of pathways and an extensive network of parks, green spaces and wooded areas throughout the community, maintaining The Woodlands takes participation from more than just maintenance crews.
Fall Sweep gives residents an opportunity to make an immediate and visible difference while spending time outdoors and working alongside their neighbors.
Fall Sweep runs through October 31, 2026.
Talk of The Woodlands will continue to share opportunities for residents to get involved, stay informed and connect with the community.
