Lone Star College-Montgomery launches Maverick MVP career-readiness program

Lone Star College-Montgomery announced a new career-readiness program Aug. 28, 2026, designed to help students develop workplace skills alongside their academic and technical education.

The Maverick MVP program—short for Most Valuable Professional—aims to help students build connections, gain confidence and understand pathways for career growth.

Five workplace skills

According to the college’s announcement, the program focuses on five areas:

  • Communication: Speaking and writing effectively while listening to others.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating to reach a shared goal.
  • Problem-solving: Finding approaches to unexpected issues.
  • Adaptability: Remaining calm and adjusting plans when circumstances change.
  • Time management: Planning work to complete it on schedule.

Matthew Samford, LSC-Montgomery’s dean of Student Success & Completion/Retention, said the program reflects the college’s view that a well-rounded education should include the ability to build successful professional relationships.

“Students are taught how to build trust with coworkers and clients, skills that are hard for computers or AI to copy,” Samford said. “These skills apply to almost any job or industry and are a great way to support your future.”

How to learn more

Lone Star College said fall registration is continuing and directed students to its Maverick MVP webpage for more information. The announcement did not specify a separate participation deadline, program schedule or enrollment process.
